Demister switch.
« on: December 09, 2017, 10:16:50 AM »
There has been a lot of talk of late about replacing bulbs behind the dash. I have a question regarding the Demister switch on my GD5 S. The switch illuminates when the demister is on, but there is no illumination to show where the switch is when it is off. Everything else on the dashboard lights up fine. Should it have a background light like the window switches/mirror switches, etc? Maybe a GD5 owner can tell me.

;I had the same lamp fail recently.
Replacement of the failed lamp is easy enough.
Follow this youtube video to gain access to the switch:-

It's a pig to remove the radio/heater housing & I did inflict some minor damage to the main dash while removing the housing.

Honda will sell you a complete lamp & housing for around a fiver

35851-SAA-003 or 35853-SAA-003 are the part numbers, one has a blue cover, the other has an orange & I can't recall which is which.

Alternatively, I used these lamps from ebay  :-

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/162541344189?ul_noapp=true

T1 WE 12V 60mA C-2V, Wire Terminal Indicator Light, Clear Bulb, 16000h

Honda lamps are 14v 40mA, it may not last as many years as a 14v lamp but 16000h of use will outlive my ownership of the car.
Hope this is of use,
Ray

Thanks. I don't think I will worry about it. It lights when the demister is on so that is the main thing. I seldom ever switch on my demister (to be quite honest I have never REALLY needed it) so I will just feel for it if I do.
