My GD3 Jazz 1.5 VTEC Turbo (Lots of Pics Inside)
« on: January 24, 2014, 04:30:55 PM »
Hi all, here's a more detailed thread of my journey with the Jazz into boosted territory. Please note this doesn't include everything I've done to the car like the OEM red badges for instance...

The parts:

63mm single box exhaust

AEM FI/C piggyback controller

AEM Oil Pressure Gauge

AEM Tru Boost Gauge & Electronic Boost Controller

AEM Wideband/ AFR Gauge

AEM Water/Meth kit

D1 Spec Oil Catch Can

My now worn out Exedy Stage 2 Racing Clutch

Oversized intercooler before it got trimmed down

Log type custom manifold with cermaic coating

T1R Gauge Pod

PTP Turbo Blanket

Walbro 255 Fuel Pump

Boomslang Wiring Harness

Injector Pig Tails

Innovate Turbo Timer (yet to be installed)

Acura RDX 410cc injectors

Sump Gasket & Sealer

Liqui Moly 10w60 GT1 & Liqui Moly Ceratec

BMC Cone Air Filter

Mitsubishi TD04 Turbo

The engine bay while it was still NA for the last time

And so the install begins!

Sump tapped for oil return

RDX 410cc injectors were plug and play

Wiring for the gauges

Intercooler trimmed down & mock fitment

Looking mean without a bumper...

Off to fit the exhaust and some custom boost piping

Boost piping

Gauges lighting up

Grrrrr

The exhaust

The almost finished product

Tie Rod Ends

Under Bracing

Federal 595 RS-R Intermediates

OEM Honda O2 sensor

Dyno run on 0.3 bar boost, that's 102wkw peak power

and 201wnm

AEM water/meth inline filter

Spark plugs were poked after the tuning so I fitted these

Some engine bay bling

My interior

My keys

The sound system

The custom ported box

The OEM clutch after seeing about 8000km's of boost (it already saw about 135 000km's before that)

So driving around with an exposed intercooler was cool for a while but I needed something to protect it and for 'stealth mode' of course...

My wheels on a good day

AEM Oil Temp Gauge (still need a custom pod made for this)

The sound deadening

The final product

And here's my new Clutch Masters FX-300 clutch kit and light weight flywheel (installing soon)

Looks amazing.

Is it only 100bhp, or have I read it wrong.

Hi,

@moob
It's 102 kW, meaning about 139 bhp.

@gynosis
Really nice work you have done there.
I am slightly surprised you didn't get more horsepower out of that engine with all these mods.
Are the camshafts still stock ones ?
With about 90 bhp per liter, I should say this engine is probably still civilized enough to be driveable on usual roads, is that correct ?
Lot of torque too, that's probably the next work to manage : how to get this on the road without spinning wheels ?

And you've certainly a lot of ideas regarding braking and suspension...
What a hell of work !

I've got through all this once ago... never again ;D but that was a lot of fun for sure  8)

Keep us informed about the next steps.
Regards
Rolandius

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

@Jazzman84- turbo is always better than a supercharger :P

@ Rolandius- that's 102kw on the wheels at about 1500m above sea level, on pump fuel (which isn't the best quality compared to Europe, etc.) on 0.3 bar boost or about 4.8psi. That being said a dyno run was done on 0.6 bar boost and returned power in the 130-140wkw range ;D
The motor itself is still stock, this is basically a custom bolt on turbo kit. It's very streetable, I can even get better fuel economy than stock just by cruising around.

The brakes have been an interesting point for me...

Will post some more pics and vids later ;)
