Magnets on the fuel line??
« on: March 18, 2012, 10:33:02 PM »
A guy at my local market tried selling me a magnet which you place around the cars fuel line and it's supposed to be good for fuel consumption and give more power! He wanted £35 for it.
I declined and thought I would investigate it on the Internet.
A load of old tosh apparently seeing as petrol is non polar so will not react to a magnetic field.
Just though I'd raise the topic incase anyone has been using them and that they might work..??

Mmmm that old chesnut  ;D
Many many years ago, about 25 I think, I was working as an agricultural engineer, one of the sales guys came in one with one of "these fancy magnets" as he called them, a bloke had sold him to try, it was to suppose to increase power & reduce fuel consumption on tractor diesels as well apparently.
Anyway, to cut a long story short we dyno tested this particular tractor to get an accurate reading ( electronic dyno, very accurate )
Next we fitted this magnet gizmo & retested, fully expecting wonderfull power out, well maybe a 5% increase & what do think happened ? Yup, you got it, nothing, no difference at all.

So to sum up, you are quite correct.....an utter load of tosh  :o

I took an old friend, who has cataract problems which prevent driving after dark, into hospital for a scan and told me that he has a magnetic fuel economizer on his car - which he'd moved from his previous car.
What can you say? He has enough on his mind. I changed the subject.

haha ah well since its not doing any harm having the magnets there (not doing any good either but thats besides the point)...maybe best letting him think the magnets do some good...he has obviously believed it works for a while now... and he has already parted with his cash :( shame....people will try anything to get money out of people

Did he have any of those superchips for sale to match this magnet also?

Those superchips that increase power, AND give better MPG are the most magic... I bet combined with a fuel magnet, Unstoppable!

Ha, D3, somebody been filling up at petrol stations at the top of a hill?

I got mine to 186 MPG once from coasting down a hill from the P-station.

Good guess but no cigar!!  That was after resetting the trip when I took delivery of it at Honda Redhill then drove to and along the M25.  The only hill was uphill!!  I thought at the time it was just the trip sorting itself out.  Never seem anything near it again. :(

Now this was down hill in my Disco 3
