2013 Jazz si vs ex
« on: December 05, 2018, 10:48:44 PM »
Hey all you jazz freaks .

I've decided that  I'm going for the 2013 year model . Why 2013? Price is the first reason . Second reason is that I believe I can get more information from the canbus in this model ( not really sure about this ) and I'm planning using autopi.io or something similar to automate available functions.
Anyway si vs ex ? What do you say.
This will be my 3rd. Fit in 10 years so I m definitely decided about the car

My first Jazz was a Mk2 1.4 Ex. What got me into the Jazz was having a Mk2 1.4 si as a loan car when my Civic was in for service.

Spec wise the two are pretty similar. I did feel that that si had sharper handling and I think it is quite a nice looking car with the extra bits and bobs on the body work.

It ain't no hot hatch though!

Drive both vehicles over roads you are familiar with, always check history & take our full HPI / Experian check.
Negotiate hard you buying at good time for a deal  - November was better.
Let the forum know which you  choose, good luck
PS I would go for the si

Hey all,

Thanks for replying, to be honest, I'm not really interested about driving experience , since this ain't  no hot hatch, as @peteo48 pointed. I'm more interested in interior features and I cant seem to find a features comparison sheet anywhere, I found a EX vs ES post though.

I will keep you updated about my decision and how much  I paid , currently its 6,5k for 35k miles on avg.

I don't think there are all that many si's on the road compared to the Ex but, for what it's worth, I think my approach would be to suck it and see. From memory I didn't see a huge difference in terms of spec - I think the si has a few tweaks to the steering and suspension but the engine and gearbox are the same.

But the si is a prettier car. It looks less sedate than the Jazz in any other form. My own view would be overall condition is the biggie when buying used. I'd take a decent EX over a slightly shabby si any day of the week but, given a choice between 2 similar vehicles in terms of age, service history and mileage, I'd take the si.

Hello!
From this What Car? quick preview in 2012, it seems that Honda Jazz SI model is just a limited edition sportier livery.  That would explain the fellow forum posts about it being a rarer sight on the roads and if tried, seems to offer a slightly sportier feel.

I had a quick scan of some online car sales sites offering a 2013 SI model, and the specs all look the same as my 2013 '63 EX.  So, it looks like its just down to the looks and the fractional difference in feel.

Good luck with your choice!

The EX will have glass panoramic roof, the Si wont.

There are some details available on the Honest John website. From a quick glance the differencce seems to be the Si has manual aircon, the ex climate control. There are lots of model variants though. Here's some links which might help. Good luck.

The 1.4 EX https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/specs/detail/?v=MHONAJAZ0104

There's a model history here https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/honda/jazz-2008/history/

Or is it? What do you think?

EX has a fixed panoramic glassroof with electric sunblind and Bluetooth connectivity, Si had a bodykit and more limited colour choice. For 2013 both Si and EX had climate control, cruise control and USB connectivity.

The alloy wheels are 16" on both but on the Si they have a diamond-cut finish which maybe be prone to white worm (common across makes - the d/cut alloys on dad's Kia Picanto have suffered at the hands of bird lime).

You can also try a search on BCA website for auction Jazz si's -  give you an idea of what the value is today, remember there are now 8 yr + so not for the mainstream retail outlets.
Good choice lets know how you get on.
