Door Lock - Repaired
« on: July 23, 2016, 09:24:02 PM »
I fixed my faulty Jazz door lock today.

In summary I took out the barrel and then filed the tops off the brass plungers until the key made them all retract.

This is how I did it:

Sorry no pics but this video helps .... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rA1HUc3GvY4

Remove the panel on the door card arm rest
Remove the 3 x cross head screws holding the door card to the door
Unplug the window switches and smaller plug. (If you have  had a recall then this unit now has a water sheild around it.
Remove the door card. I used a slot at the bottom to get the first clip off.
Peel back the plastic sheet.
Remove the window guide attached to the door handle
Remove the central locking switch on the end of the lock barrel
Remove the 2 rods on the door handle from the clips on the handle
Remove the 2 bolts securing the handle and metal plate to the door.
Now slide the door handle from the outside as forward as it will go.
Watch the video and release the circlip. I used a small screwdriver.
The meatal plate will now come out with the barrel.

Get the barrel on the bench.
Remove the circlip on the end and plate
Remove the spring
Now the barrel should slide out of the aluminium housing
Note the brass plungers
These pull out and a little spring will remain.
I filed the ends of the brass plungers down until the key made them depress enough.
I also left one out that was causing problems.

Put it all back together.

It appears the probem is the brass plungers wearing and then the key doesnt retract them enough.

Sorry for no pics I was in a rush doing this.

Total time was 2 hours and it wasnt too hard to do.

I can nw put the key in and unlock the drivers door.

All my locks went, drivers first then passenger and then boot. I ended up buying a new boot lock and key which was dead easy to fit. But decided I had better do the drivers door lock.

What part is most difficult / time consuming?

Removing the lock or changing / removing the levers?

Do you think it is worth buying spares like these if someone has faulty locks? 340pcs - £14 per kit from China

Removing the door lock is the most time consuming.

The levers just pull out .

Yes definitely get a kit like that. Those are the bits that wear .

I also noticed some wear on my key. Using the spare key has helped.

All a bit hard getting the clip out but its essential that all the nuts and screws are removed around the lock cylinder, because as soon as the clip is slightly unhooked from the housing the mechanism inside the door falls off. Tip for next time :- Tie a bit of string to the bottom of the clip to allow access to it from the inside.

Useful step by step write up.
In the old days I used to swop over the drivers lock with the pasenger side and get the owner back on the road.

I must have missed a step, i got the panels off and the 2 10mm bolts, but i couldnt get the 2nd pulley wire out, the first one attached to the interior door opening handle came off easily.
