Fitting mirrors with indicators?
« on: August 27, 2018, 10:02:29 AM »
I have a MK1 Jazz.
Is it possible to fit mirrors with indicators, like the ones the later models have?

Some of the more upmarket Mk 1's have indicators on their mirrors.

So, is that proof that I can fit them easily on my 2002 Jazz?  ;)

The wiring might be an issue as these can be specific to different trim levels even within the same model years. I'd say it's unlikely they could be retro fitted.

So long as the mirrors actually physically fit to the same mountings, I would think it would be possible - but as Richard says, the wiring won't be there for the repeaters.

It should be possible to extend, or divert, the wiring from the original positions of the wing repeaters via the door pillar and into the door, but it's going to be a bit of a faff - at the very least, you are looking at wheelarch liners, door cards, and possibly some a-pillar trim to get to the areas you need, before you think about adding the necessary wire/s to the loom.

Next question is, what would you do with the original repeaters? Leave them, or get hold of some later wings without the repeater holes?

My 2006 Mk1 has them.

They even fold in (via a button- Does anyone know if this can be done from the keyfob?)

My 2008 does too, I think most of the later cars had them.

There is a mod in the DIY Guides here to fold the mirrors automatically on locking, if that's any help?

I guess you could feasibly connect a remote locking fob & receiver to it if necessary

Oh! Thanks for the link. That's pretty cool. I'm always afraid of messing with electrics but might give this a go. Would love them to fold in automatically.

So definitely a no-go :)
Thanks for clearing this up!
