2012 CVT - what to spot/any issues?
« on: March 16, 2017, 11:57:29 AM »
I've decided to buy a 2012 CVT car but any faults that I should spot? Day to day any frustrations? I hear you have to learn to drive it a different way/adapt your driving style.

I bought a nearly new 2012 one.
Drive smoothly and you will notice nothing. Drive like a car tester and you will.

Check there is a FULL  SH and CVT oil changes have been done at 25,000 miles. (I have just done mine and the old fluid was starting to darken and it "seems" to have smoother changes..)

Hi,
Honda recommend the cvt fluid is changed every 2 years and it is essential that honda fluid is used. My 2011 had a low milage but the front tyres had cracks between the treads and the rear discs needed changing. I have been very happy with the car, I find it a little sluggish pulling away in D but I tend to put it into S when I need to pull out quickly. I drove a 2017 loan car recently and that was set up to be more sporting so a 2012 may be the same. Averaging about 45 mpg with mixed driving about 12,000 a year,
Chris

Best to drive a couple of cars locally then search around for part/ex's at dealers -try Autotrader. Cars of 2012 age its all about condition & service history, there are 100's to choose from  - good hunting.
You can now check on MOT history at official gov't website >https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history
When you find one always get an HPI check before parting with your cash.

I hear you have to learn to drive it a different way/adapt your driving style.

The CVT is very straight forward to drive and doesn't need any special technique. I think you may be thinking of an earlier Honda automatic, the i-Shift, which was not popular with many people and resulted in Honda going back to the CVT for the 2011 facelift.
Don't avoid using the 'S' mode as this gives improved acceleration and pull away from junctions and roundabouts for example.

Vic.

I have one the same year, no problems at all except has changed the front ligth several times. It has done 130000 km and been serviced by the dealer. CVT works perfect. Has been called for at change of the driver airbag.

Perfect litle car.
