Air conditioning at first service.
« on: September 13, 2016, 10:02:22 AM »
First service booked for Friday.
My dealership have just telephoned me to ask if I would like the air coditioning " servicing"  at half price £ 29.
Something about ' bacteria '. Anyone out there know more about this. Should I have it done ?
Would have thought that it was superfluous with a car only 12 months old .
Thanks in advance for any advice.

It's not something I had offered when my Mk 3 was serviced last week.

If if is something that Honda considered necessary then it would be on the service checklist.

Looking through my service records for the previous car, it appears that the pollen filter was changed as part of the normal service at 2 years old, so I assume that means every 2 years.
If that is so, then your dealer appears to be 'trying it on' with his so called half price offer, for a 1 year old car.

Thank you very much fellas.
I thought it was unnecessary.
It came across as a " try on " to me as well.
Will have a word with them about it on Friday. My initial reaction was that it wasn't needed just yet.

I would stick to things on the Honda service schedule unless there is a fault. Sounds like upselling the service to increase profits. My last car did not have a service plan, the dealer (not Honda) tried to sell me one at every service.

An aircon service every two years is sufficient but it must then be done properly not just have more gas rammed into it.

I believe A/C cleaning involves spraying an aerosol in to the air side system and letting recirculate for a while.  If the A/C does not smell damp or musty when first run, then I doubt it is required.  When checking A/C service prices this summer, 'cleaning' was a £5 upgrade.
