LCD displays are sensitive to temperature,  and the highest rated ones go up to 70 deg C...  I suspect in summer in countries like SA and Australia ( and middle east ) the temperature inside modern cars with large area of dash and sloping windscreen could exceed that.

I was up really early on a cold morning and the display was significantly less faded, almost looked "fixed" so I doubt this issue is related to the polarizer. Once a polarizer is damaged I can't see how cold temps would fix it.

As I said earlier. Perhaps the display is warping as op said it works properly viewed from an acute angle. Maybe as the cabin temperature rises.

My 2012 Jazz has the identical problem.  I live in Cape Town and when the sun gets on to the display, the clock disappears.  I can still read the radio station (It says FMR 101.3) so it’s mainly the right hand side

It’s a big mission changing the radio.  You can get a small stick-on LCD clock which looks reasonable

From looking out for it I've seen quite a few of the facelift Jazz Mk2 get faded displays, obviously a factory manufacturing defect of some sort. The MKII pre-facelift radio displays don't appear to have this issue and from my research they are compatible with the facelift Jazz.

I opened mine up in the hope it was just the LCD ribbon pins or contacts that needed cleaning and unfortunately they are all fixed/glued to the board and can't be accessed. It is quite easy to get the radio out and to open it up though and you could possibly strip the lcd assembly from a MKII pre-facelift radio and fit that so the radio still matches the black facelift dash.

Hi, I have a similar issue on my 2010 Jazz 1.3.
The LCD on the radio is so faint now it is unreadable.
What solution did you get to in the end, I am considering fitting an aftermarket radio, but would prefer to fix the stock radio.
Thanks

Other than taking a good LCD out of another radio there is no fix. I'd go aftermarket because I see you are also in South Africa and I couldn't find a 2hnd radio from the used spares places for under R2500.

An aftermarket radio will also get you USB and Bluetooth but they aren't easy to find in South Africa if at all, you'll probably need to order one from ebay or Aliexpress?

Not to start a new topic, this idea to install a different "smart" radio unit is on my mind for years. Anyone from this forum who installed and uses it? How good is it? They will charge you 400 euro here in Ireland to do the job (job done by Ukrainians/Lithuanians, not dealers garages of course). It will be the one like from Ali, will have a direct USB for MP3 music (without adapters), a Navigation (Android! with he feature to find addresses thru Postal Indexes(codes) like GoogleMaps which I am used to), a Bluetooth, and a radio of course.

That is quite pricey for what is a relatively easy job, the radio and new fascia/surround can't be more than 200 euro incl shipping and duties if you order from Aliexpress or eBay?
Just make sure you order the correct fascia for left or right hand drive because they are different

There's plenty of info on how to change the radio via Google and Youtube, I took mine out and it was a relatively simple job.
