My MK3 hates
« on: August 15, 2023, 07:40:58 PM »
1  Lack of power at low revs

2 Rough ride

3 When the aircon is turned off you get a burst of hot air into the cabin

4 Dashboard reflection onto the windscreen

5 Obstructed view around A pillars.

6 Bashing head on opened tailgate

7 Parking sensors can be accidentally turned off by knee (crunch)

8 Silly bits of string on the hatch cover

I may think of more

BUT the crunch question is

Has the MK4 fixed these hates ??

On question 1 :
Yes it has loads of power now, easily keeping up with any traffic at any speed.
Try one you'll be really surprised at the available torque.
That was my biggest gripe with my MK3 not much power in first at low revs.

It will be alright in the end, if it's not alright then it's not the end !

1 night and day better

2 I think its a smooth ride like a bigger car, particularly on 15in

3 not noticed this myself, others have to report

4 same at some sun angles, should have been black rather than grey

5 much better

6 you have to stand out of the way as the boot opens, I'm 6ft and have not bashed my head yet once opened

7 not noticed yet

8 the same

These are:

4 Dashboard reflection onto the windscreen - noticeably reduced if you wear polarized sunglasses

5 Obstructed view around A pillars. - it's still possible to miss traffic entering a roundabout to your right if you don't move your head a bit.

6 Bashing head on opened tailgate - common to all Jazzes I'm afraid.

8 Silly bits of string on the hatch cover - still there. Was the same on my Mk2 too.

I assume the gutless comment refers to the 1.3 which I can understand.

Try the 1.5 Sport and it's a different beast altogether

When I looked at the 1.5 Jazz it was manual only and I'm a diehard auto driver and the 1.3 CVT was so noisy at takeoff the test drive was quickly terminated
Let's be careful out there !

At the risk of turning this into a Mk3 thread:
1. I think you're probably referring to torque rather than power. In my 1.3 Mk3, I've never perceived this as a problem, I just use the gears to get into the rev range where torque (and acceleration) is OK. Oh, I see you've got a CVT, that's probably your problem ...
2. I don't recognize this as an issue, it's what I would expect from a small car so probably the Mk4 will be similar.
3. Mine doesn't do this.
4. Never seen this.
5. Agree, but this is a problem with most cars these days. Modern crash test rules require beefy A pillars. I think the Mk4 has slimmed these down so it should be better.
6. Never happened to me.
7. Never happened to me. There's another thread on here somewhere suggesting that the latest model Mk4s have the switch deleted, you now do it through the touchscreen.
8. Every small hatchback I've ever owned has had the hatch cover lifted by cords. BTW, what's "silly" about a design solution that's simple, cheap and effective? Would you want some fancy solution that would add weight, complexity, and cost?

Every Jazz I have owned has had, to some extent, the problem of dashboard reflection in the windscreen. It's a result of the relatively shallow slope of the windscreen and my eyeballs being in the wrong place when seated comfortably.

I also had a CVT Mk 3 and didn't like the inability to smoothly accelerate. It was either gutless or piled on the revs and became noisy. Honda hadn't properly thought through the consequences of fitting an Atkinson cycle engine (which did, however, significantly improve the fuel economy). I only kept the Mk 3 for one year before trading it in for an HR-V which also fixed the windscreen reflection problem.

to try and keep some MK4 relevance - a shortcoming I take from all the Honda Jazz models I have had - the sun shield, drivers side does not cover enough to prevent very annoying blinding occasionally, especially right side on Mk4.

One small problem in other wise very very excellent car

Im trying to talk myself into buying a MK4 as I'm not enjoying driving the Mk3.
But I dont do enough mileage to justify the cost but I dont want to spend money trying to resolve my hates
The SE,s are cheaper but they dont have parking sensors or powered folding mirrors

7 Parking sensors can be accidentally turned off by knee (crunch)

The switch is still there but in a recess between the door and the bottom of the steering wheel. I've never caught it with my knee.

I DONT BELIEVE IT

I went out to my car and there is a big screw in my rear tyre. Rather than taking it out I went round to my local tyre shop to get it repaired.

BUT the screw had gone in right next to a previous puncture repair so it could not be repaired.

As he did not have a new tyre of the right size I have paid for a second hand tyre to be fitted to get me mobile

Is this telling me something??

Now after changing both rear tyres I have found it drives completely different like driving a different car. I still cant get used to how it will keep moving when i take my foot off the gas.
Those old tyres were really holding it back
