I really hate this. Can it be disabled?

Slip it into "S" when required should deactivate it.

Does that do the trick?

Doesn't moving the gearstick to Neutral get the engine started again?

I'm used to autostop and get annoyed because it doesn't always happen due to reasons best known to Honda (temperature, charge level of IMA battery, number of auxililary items using power, alignment of planets ....).

Note that autostop doesn't use the starter motor to restart the engine. It's the IMA motor that gets the engine spinning (and the car moving) and some fuel gets added to provide more power.

I'm actually driving a 2013 CRZ and the trick with the S button does not work, autostop still functions.

It is the uncertainty with what is going to happen which really is irritating. Occasionally my car will refuse to start at all and I have to begin the start up proceedure from scratch - very embarassing.

Switching on the de-mist button and turning off A/C and the fan to minimum will stop Autostop but this seems a very poor way to 'fix' the problem.

Most of the current manufacturers seem to fit an on/off switch, including I believe Honda.

I don't mind the autostop at all now. I found it strange at first, but now, as JR says, I only notice when it doesn't turn the engine off.
If the function is unwanted on your CRZ, I would go and ask your dealer if they can turn it off at the control unit.

This is a six speed manual. I have asked the dealer, they said  that they would ask Honda Technical but I am still awaiting a reply.

There was a device available in Japan called a Pivot Idling Stop Canceller which is exactly waht I need, but the maker has discontinued it.

You do realise this is the Jazz forum.
A google search on Honda crz auto stop takes you straight to the CRZ forum with several answers.

6sp manual supposedly doesn't cut off when in 1st gear.

I can't see you getting any joy out of Honda as it works as intended and type-approved for emissions as such.

Pivot thingy is £110 delivered according to this seller (example, no endorsement or otherwise). Even if it is "discontinued", it must be still out there http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121454503629

Point taken.
Sorry, I was just trying to point you in the direction of all this other information available on the CRZ forum which seemed to me to be related to your problem.
