I just wish they do something about thre fake grills in the rear bumpers but otherwise I'm excited. It's a good looking car which is getting rave reviews in USA plus it's big enough so many ex-Accord owners might even consider coming back to the brand

Looks like the Swindon built 5 door Civic will be exported to USA - hats off to Honda they spent big money at Swindon regardless of EU referendum result,  seems that Japanese are more loyal to UK than our EU 'partners'  - I am disgusted at Autoexpress who don't even include Civic in their 'best hatchbacks to buy' list

After having seen a number of the new model Civics back in May whilst on holiday in America I agree with TG about the rear grilles but it is a very good looking car when you see it in the metal. It looks very impressive when you see it from the front with great road presence. Like most new versions of an existing model it has grown in size and is getting close to the Accord in size.
The Coupe version looks very smart and they get the 1.5 litre 174 BHP turbo version as well as the 2.0 litre 158 BHP non turbo version; I've attached some photos of a Coupe which was staying at the same hotel as us.
It remains to be seen if Honda will bring the Coupe version to the UK this time after their last attempt which didn't sell very well, partly I suspect because it wasn't the very stylish for a Coupe.

@TonyS that looks stunning! Love the colour as well but like all good things, I doubt it will be coming to UK.

It will be interesting to know which body shell will the first ever US bound Type R will be offered in. My guess is since UK will be supplying the hatchbacks and there will most definitely be a UK Type R, it wouldn't make sense to develop a separate coupe version for US.

Unless Honda sees the light and offers atleast the saloon to left over Accord enthusiasts as an alternative to the discontinued model.

I'm sure with those looks it would sell a lot better than the previous version if only Honda would be brave enough to give it a go.

This one looked even better but then it did cost considerably more than the Honda and it's not quite as practical!

There were quite a few jaws dropped when the two occupants returned to the car and drove away in it.
Both were men of considerable years but obviously true petrol heads and enjoying their day out as we would in a car like that.

I think Honda's forward planning is greater than 6 weeks, more like 6 years.  The sterling component of a Swindon Civic 5d hatch won't help global sales much or HUM's margin.  It will be interesting to see if demand can overcome this obstacle, and they can re-open plant #2 to bring capacity back to 250,000 from 150,000.

according to TTAC some loading pics were taken during March at Southampton and tracking the ship in photos they reckoned the hatches are already in US. I think they will be shown during October

Forget the Civic for a moment and feast your eyes on the NSX - performance is nothing short of staggering - 550BHP twin turbo Hybrid engine - 0-60 in 3 seconds - will definitely give BMW, Mclaren and Audi pause for thought......

Honda  cars have been in the doldrums for years now - they were trying to produce 'green' cars - which don't excite people at all (not me anyway) - now they are getting back to the Honda as we used to know and love it,  making ground breaking cars at prices that are not actually too bad (Just over £100K for the NSX).

It's been a long time coming since the original NSX with Senna's input but it's been worth the wait and is definitely up there with the likes of  Mclaren and Co.
It should help to lift Hondas image from the stereotypical image of being the pensioners default choice.
If I had the cash I would be down to the local dealer tomorrow.
Failing that a Civic Coupé would have to suffice if it ever becomes available over here.

As pointed out elsewhere by Legend-ary, this may be the first car with a Qi charge plate for your mobile.
Still think both bumpers are not suited to on street parking.  And that looks like the kind of engine bay you're thankful you don't have to change a timing belt.

#  The interior is also greatly improved - with cleaner lines and, notably, a far less antiquated touchscreen than the current generation. It was also the base spec, built primarily for the US market, so we expect UK buyers to fare even better. (TG* Second-generation Connect infotainment and connectivity systems, which integrate with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto have been fitted to US 2016MY Civics)

#  Interior space has improved, thanks to the longer wheelbase. Rear leg room has increased by a claimed 95mm and there’s more shoulder room in the front and rear. Boot space remains the same as before, at 478 litres, which is considerably more than the 360 litres of its Volkswagen Golf rival. Honda has ditched its so called Magic Seats and instead reverted to a more traditional 60/40 rear seat split.

#  A hybrid is also likely to arrive during the car's lifecycle with Kiraya confirming to Autocar that the new platform can accommodate such a powertrain. However, an all-electric Civic is not possible with this platform.

#  The saloon and three-door variants, built primarily for the US market, won’t be offered in the UK.

I think 180bhp from 1.5 is pretty good but this show model does look like a sporty one and not the volume one. Centre exhausts, Adaptive damper button and extra bits under the bumper kind of hint its intentions.

Other than the absurdly busy rear bumper I think its a very nice design. Agree regarding the snake's nest of an engine bay.. .but atleast they are proud to show it off and haven't covered in a sea of boring and unnecessary plastic.

ps. I will miss the manual parking brake.. don't like these button ones.
