Thanks, yes the plates in this country have been in these colours for over 40yrs now and it is UK law to have them this way, previously to this in the early 60s registration plates here were black with White letters, some metal plates had silver writing... The yellow backed plate is reflective, and is more highlighted to following vehicles etc..

Current plates, yellow backed to the rear, white backed to the front - both backgrounds are reflective.

There have been other dates where the letter size changed slightly, but the only really significant change was on 1st January 1973. All cars made (not registered) prior to that date can wear white letters on black backgrounds. Very old numberplates were painted, but since the 1930's embossed metal plates with white metal letters were usually used.

Yes I and have no idea why. White/Grey on black is for pre-'73 cars (I think?)

The GB with EU flag symbol in the 'plate is optional.
