Title: Newbie, good driving school car??
Post by: solent adi on April 13, 2019, 12:24:31 AM
Hi all,
Am a driving instructor in southern England, up to now used Ford Fiesta. Love the car, however, lease ending and wanted change. Taking delivery of a new EX NAVI in mid May, drive feels smoother at slow speeds compared to Fiesta, hopefully pupils will enjoy the spec too!! A great price, from what I have heard/ read, seem to be very reliable cars. Looking forward to using it, and getting lots of solid advice and tips. Roll on May!!!

Welcome to the forum!  8)

Well, our 08 plate mark 1 was a driving instructor's car for the first 100,000 miles of its life... and it has survived really quite well, especially the interior - the seats still show no sign of wear at 160,000+ miles and clean up like new. Mechanically, it just keeps going, with the odd bits wearing out with age as you would expect.

I don't know what small Fords are like these days, but small Renaults are falling to bits at half the mileage ours has done now, I can vouch for that.

If you want to know anything, just ask in the relevant section. Yours is obviously the latest mark 3 incarnation, there are lots of members with newer models like yours who I'm sure will be able to help you with any queries you have.

My first Jazz went to 256k miles as a driving school car, and the second one is running at 60k miles per year.

The only disadvantage is the 12,500 mile service intervals, when Vauxhalls are 20,000 miles, but long-term the Jazz is a better option.

The tyres last 40k on the front and 80k+ on the back, but that's with half of my mileage on the motorways.

Excellent reliability and reasonable running costs make it a sound investment for a driving school car.

Got a Mk 2 2009 i-shift ES. Three years old when I brought it. Done 70k miles on it. Great teaching car. Big mirrors, easy to read Speedo, lots of seats and steering adjustments for the pupil, good space for every day car but small enough for learners.

Road tax £110 so affordable. Insurance ok, £360. Maintenance is routine and apart from tyres, brakes and wipers, nothing else has been changed, even the exhaust.

However, my actuator went at 80k miles but this wouldn't affect you. Honda dealership aren't as good they used to be and tried to con me once or twice during servicing. Battery needs changing regularly. Seats side cushion and upholstery starting to wear compares to my manual Ibiza of the same age and mileage.

But I think Jazz is good for Driving school car. Reliable is key and learners finds it easy to drive.
