Poll

I have had my car for a month. It judders when pulling away. Should I get the garage to get this fixed under the 3 month warranty- when it states major mechanical work is done under warranty

Yes, definitely, change of fluid should have been done at the pre sale service

Try it and see, it’s not really major, and it’s a known issue

No, it’s a relatively cheap fix

Under the Consumer Rights 2015 (cra2015) you have rights as a consumer, and within 30 days of purchsae these rights are quite robust. Google to see more and decide what you want to do.

Without knowing more information about the car and purchase situation, it's hard to offer advice. I would however say if the car is otherwise fine, it's normally best to work with the dealer and get it fixed. HTH

The problem with the poll is that the gearbox might need more than a fluid change.

I guess it depends what you paid for the car but you should probably think carefully about what you hope to achieve.

Although you have the right to have "major mechanical issues" dealt with, you don't have the right to buy a car for a couple of hundred quid and then expect a seller to do a thousand quid's worth of work to get it into good shape.
In that case, chances are the seller will just refund you and then sell it to somebody with more realistic expectations instead.

If you did pay a lot of money for it, on the assumption it'll be in first-rate condition, it's more likely the seller will be willing to either fix it or, at least, refund you something to cover the expected costs.

Course, you should think carefully about accepting an offer like that too.
If you suggest it needs a gearbox oil-change and the seller offers you £50 to cover the cost, it's going to be awkward if it turns out it needs a new gearbox that's going to cost £600 to fit.

If the car is juddering you probably need a full flush and refill rather than just a fluid change. I purchased my wife’s Jazz a couple of months ago & it juddered but the car was low mileage and otherwise good and I got it for a fair price so accepted it need work as any 15 year old car would. I took it to a great Honda Specialist who went over the whole car for me and a flush and Xado EX-120 seemed to cure the judder.

If you purchased it for a good price and are otherwise happy with the car I’d get a full report from a recommended specialist/ independent garage before the 3 months expire and then discuss the results with the seller. Please remember it’s an old car and you must expect things will need attention.

You don't really want to be committing to anything that doesn't involve the dealer fixing the car, or returning your money. Whilst it may only need a fluid flush or two, these sorts of issues are often due to previous servicing neglect, and that can bring its own problems in the long run. However, bear in mind that these CVT gearboxes can also suffer from other major problems that are not cheap or easy to fix.

Although it is an older car, you are entitled to a roadworthy vehicle free of any defects that were not made clear to you before the point of sale.

Thanks all. Paid a couple of grand or the car...and I appreciate all your thoughts. It is something I can live with, and I have a selector issue at the moment too (which occurred while the car was in the garage for them to fix brakes and tie rod issue under their warranty). So they have to take the car to the Honda dealer, who may flush it as part of problem solving thE selector issue.
