Another Hello
« on: November 18, 2014, 10:54:19 AM »
Just acquired  an 05 plate Jazz for my daughter so hope these forums may be of use  should anything go wrong.

Probably the wrong place to ask this but the car came with only one key.  Can you lead me to the cheapest option to get a non-remote key that will operate in an emergency in the event of her losing/mislaying the one key

Thank you

Stan

Hi welcome to Jazz ownership.

You can try around auto locksmiths for the best price or you might try a branch of timpsons as I believe that some have transponder reader/writers and they should be able to cut the double sided key ok.

Hello and welcome.

Ditto local locksmiths and/or chain.

a) dirt cheap - a key to get you in the car.
b) slightly dearer - a key to get you in the car and start it.
c) expensive - as above, but with remote.

Option b) it is then.

I've NO idea on price. I'll guess 50-75 quid and you can tell me if I'm right or wrong...

Hello and welcome.

I had to get a new cut for a mk2 Fiat Punto back in 2003, cost inc. coding the key to the car at the dealer was £50 if I remember.

So that figure and upwards would be a good guess.

Thanks for all your replies - she says she is going to an auto locksmith.

One  more thing, I have not seen the car so I have no idea, but she tells me that it has no trip mileage facility - is this a fact or is she missing something?

Sandwiched between the speedo and the fuel gauge is a stem/button sticking out....

It can be rotated left or right for the dashboard lighting (including the radio and everything in the middle). It can be pushed once to scroll through the three displays (mileage, trip, mpg) and it can reset the trip (when in trip mode) if it is held down until it zeros. This also resets the ave mpg, which is the ave figure since last trip reset.

Video should explain all that:
