Help! Mystery Noise
« on: February 26, 2020, 02:06:24 PM »
It's probably something very straightforward but, at seemingly random times, I get a "bong" sound through the speakers. It's not unlike the "bong" noise that you get on a plane before an announcement.

Nothing shows up on the infotainment screen or on the instrumentation. My former Mk3 did not have this noise.

Any ideas?

Most likely traffic alert on the navigation, even if you don't have a destination set, if the road you are on has traffic conditions ahead it will give an alert.

You could either turn the sound off in the navigation app or use the task manager (press and hold home button) and close the app down.

Thanks Steve. I didn't have the navigation turned on as it goes but I guess it could be working in the background. There was a bad accident on the other carriageway of the M53 as I was driving along it today.

Yep, the gong should be the TMC alert.

Just read this post.
I don't think it's the navigation.
I think it's the seatbelt warning.
Try starting the car with the seatbelt on, hopefully the bong will have gone.

And anything moderately heavy (but non-human) on a seat can sometimes trigger the seat belt warning.

The damn thing sounds before you can sit down let alone fasten a seatbelt.  How I  h a t e  it! Precisely how do you deactivate it? It was easy on my px Clio but I've no idea how to do so on this Mk4 Jazz. Does anyone? Please enlighten me on the subject whilst my sanity remains intact.
