Engine oil check
« on: February 11, 2016, 10:34:47 PM »
Hello All,

My first car and I am first time checking engine oil. This is what I did and found
1. Take dipstick out and clean it with tissue paper.
2. Orange part (bottom) part of is completely dry.
3. Put it back and then takeout again
4. Orange part - Between min and max is not dry and covered in clear colour fluid
AND below min there is dark/black colour fluid.

Which one is engine oil - clear colour one ? or dark colur one?
Is my engine low in oil or is it okay?

please share your experience and suggestions. Also recommend which brand engine oil to buy incase top up is required. Thanks

If you clean it, and then put it in again. Then check it, thats what it should show.

Ideally, check it after engine is on for 2 mins as honda says in the manual book. If your engine oil is clean still, it'll be clear. or with a blur of brown ish.

It's a rare thing for a Honda Jazz engine to need the oil topping up between services. I've had no need to consider buying any top-up oil.

i agree 1000% the only time it goes down is around 10k-12k miles, which is roughly when you should have changed your oil by then anyways.

Had a Mk2 Jazz for five years from new and never put a spot of oil in myself.
Haven't checked mk3 yet and don't expect to find any deficiency at all.
Honda engines are superb, it's all these non functioning daft Honda connect related features that do not work that irritate me !

Thanks All.
ian_5135 : I checked engine oil after running engine for couple of minutes (and then waited for couple of minutes after turning it off). Oil level is above min (brownish colour).

I would consider getting a service manual,  hints about servicke checks get £ from Honda dealer then search E Bay for one for your Jazz.
