Spare wheel
« on: April 04, 2020, 05:31:33 PM »
Hi
I have just bought a 2010 Jazz 1.4 ES.
Of course it does not have a spare wheel so I want to rectify this.
For around the same price on EBay I could either buy a 15” alloy with tyre (same wheel as fitted to car with tyre 175/65) or a space saver spare with tyre.
My question is, does the full size 15 inch alloy with tyre fit in the lower boot of the Jazz? If it doesn’t fit I will have to buy the space saver, if it does I’d prefer the alloy .
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance

Can't speak for 2010 Jazzes.
The appropriate alloy wheels, certainly fit into 2015, and 2018 models.

I think the spare wheel well, only began to "shrink", in 2019.....

A full size spare wheel fits into my 2014  "lower boot space". Go for the alloy.

You'll need a securing bolt (about £15 ? from Honda). If your "lower boot space" is carpeted you can cut a cross in the carpet over the hole the bolt goes into so that you can put the bolt through. The hole with the screw thread for the bolt comes with car!

Just to check, the securing bolt will work with the alloy right?

I think alloys and steel wheels have a different angle so require different nuts.

I moved the wheel over to the left, and inserted a standard m8 screw, through one of the wheel mounting holes. Much cheaper!   ;)

Full size spare fits in wifes MK2 easily.

The nut and plate to hold spare wheel in wheelwell will work with both the alloys and steel rims.

The original Honda alloy wheel nuts fitted the steel rims I bought from mytyres for both the Jazz and Civic  - but the Rial 15" alloys I bought from mytyres for wifes Jazz to replace OEM 16" had 60deg taper nuts that were not compatible with Honda alloys or steel rims, so I have to keep the Rial nuts with the alloys for Jazz.  There is plenty of depth inside the 'acorn' on Honda nuts to take up the difference between thickness of alloys and steel rims.

Honda left the spare out to improve the fuel economy, as you are not dragging round a spare wheel, my 2011 Jazz has a liquid puncture repair kit and a12 volt pump under a cover on the right side of the boot.

I don't know if it goes out of date, never had to use it, but now I have said that I probably will.

Yes, it does have an expiry date, it should be checked by the dealer at each annual service.

My spare is 14 years old and has never been on the car. I contacted the tyre manufacture and was told that if there was no cracking or crazing and it hadn't been exposed to bright sunlight it would still be safe to use in an emergency. They recommended that I get the punctured tyre replaced and back on the car as quickly as possible.

Hi,
The puncture gunk lasts about 5 years, when I bought my car it was out of date  despite the check  sheet saying  it was ok. Garage gave replacement  but I missed the fact  that the Jack was missing. You are supposed to Jack the car up and spin the wheel after squirting the gunk in, more trouble than changing the wheel. Don't forget to  take  the valve out  before trying to put the gunk in......really,
Chris

I bought an alloy wheel from E-Bay as spare for my 2012 1.4 Jazz 4 years ago and it fits OK in the well.   You will need two items for fixing which I bought from Honda dealer at the time:

Anchor Plate 83853SA7980 Cost £8.75
Anchor Bolt   83850SD2000 Cost £7.66
