Whoever you get to recharge the AC after fitting the condenser should add the oil during the recharge. The oil is essential to the well being of the AC system as it lubricates the moving parts and keeps the seals in good condition.

Re AC not playing, if the clutch kicking in and out isn’t happening any more, “check” the relay.  Noticed that air wasn’t getting that cold and the usual AC fan wasn’t cutting in and out, teen out the AC compressor clutch relay, gave it a gentle tap, then put it back in and all was back to it’s usual working self.  Must be the cheapest and quickest fix I’ve ever done on a car! :D

Cheers for the pic of relays.
Like I said the garage said the condensor was leaking so I will fit that and I might as well give the relays a tap too.
They just pull out I guess?

Had mine re-gassed at the weekend. The first time I've ever had it done in the three years I've owned the car, and I have no record of the previous owner having done it. My car is a 2006 with about 99k miles.

My aircon was still working, but the air was only slightly cooler than ambient. I used the Kwik-Fit service (£59.99) and now it's much much cooler. It took them about 30 minutes. I noticed afterwards the L and H caps were loose, I assumed they weren't supposed to be and screwed them back down.

The compressor is kicking in so I didn't touch the relays in the end.
I will check the H & L caps tho!!
So just a quick thanks to those on here that have haelped.

Ps, I have a new condensor for sale cheap if anyone is interested. PM me.

Good job, have you got a link for the mesh you used please?

Out of curiosity how come you ended up with 2 condensers?

I popped into Homebase and got some, it's all I could see and it was hard to cut needed a grinder lol.
I'll try and find a link in a mo.
https://www.homebase.co.uk/perforated-steel-sheet-300-x-1000-x-1.2mm/12808632.html

The first condenser got slightly damaged in transit and they replaced it and told me to get rid of the old one.
Happy to pass on to someone on here for postage and a beer!
Sorry about the unclean car!
Having a mare posting a pic, bear with...

Bit of an update.
Just wondered what temp should be getting from air vents with A/C on with outside in the 20s.....?
The other day lowest was 4.5 degrees but it was interesting to see how the temp varied every few seconds.

When it was hot last month, 28-29 degrees Celsius, my ac vent temp was measuring 4 - 7 degrees. When it’s average summer temperatures, from 18 to 21 degrees the average vent temp is about 3-4 degrees. I’m only measuring using a cheap probe thermometer, not entirely sure how accurate it is…

Cheers.
I'm only using one of the Ebay £3 probe but it's just to get an idea and to monitor it over time.
Yours sounds like it's getting a tad lower in temperature but am happy with the A/C at the moment but yet to see in really hot weather.

The compressor does not run all the time, it cycles on and off ( magnetic clutch controlled by ECU ) there is a sensor on the cold side evaporator that when temperature gets too low ( danger of evaporator freezing up ) it cuts power to the magnetic clutch to disconnect drive between serpentine aux belt pulley and the compressor.
