Door sill garnishes concerns
« on: April 28, 2021, 07:14:42 PM »
I am thinking of fitting non-illuminated door sill garnishes (08E12-T5A-600A) for a bit of protection, but I have concerns. Would they be prone to trapping moisture underneath them, so encouraging corrosion? Also, what might the double-sided sticky tape that adheres them to the sill do to the paintwork over time? Opinions and advice most welcome. Thanks.

I've not got them fitted, but the fact they are Honda approved would give me confidence in the design. I note from the picture, that they fit under the rubber door seal which I would expect to make a water free snug fit.

Perhaps visit your dealer and see if they have some you could look at before you buy, or pehaps they have experience of fitting?

Hi

We fitted light sill 5 years ago and they still look lovely I think

The sill does not get really wet as it is inside of door seals

Many thanks

John

Thank you both for your reply. You each raise a valid point. Think I'll go for these if I can pick them up for a decent price.

I have fitted these garnish door plates to several of my Jazz cars in the past and have just fitted the plates to my new Mk4, no concerns at all about rust etc.

My Jazz has them fitted from the dealer in 2012 when a new car.
No sign of rust,

Had the official version on last 2 Jazz, no problems. The none OE could be a problem but why not fit anyhow.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. You've allayed my fears. Bassetts Honda Swansea have them on their ebay shop for £110 + £5.99 delivery. That's the cheapest around by a bit. Annoyingly, they were only £100 for quite a while. I think I'll go for them, though. Thanks again.

Ring the dealer & ask them for their best deal price, you never know
Good luck & let the forum know how you get on.

I paid £85 for the plates to suit my Mk4, from my dealer, which I fitted myself. I gather the listed price of £110 was for dealer fitted.
Not sure what constitutes a complete set, but I only got 2 plates for the front doors.
