Got the verdict from AC Wizard. Condenser is leaking and the compressor clutch is slipping. About £600. Much better. Hesitant to spend so much on a 2009 car, however. I'm also nowhere near handy enough to DIY it.

At least you know what's wrong with it now. It's down to whether you think aircon is worth £600.

Yeah definitely. Glad I got him through. Really nice guy too.

If the Jazz was a 2nd car, I'd probably leave it as is. I don't fancy going on a roadtrip in it. Wife and I have some decisions to make this weekend!

If it helps to value the job, cheapest non-OEM condensor/dryer is about £70, and a complete compressor with clutch about £150... then there's the labour to fit, and a re-gas on top of that.

Fair bit of work involved fitting both.
