12 V battery warning light
« on: February 28, 2024, 07:27:29 PM »
So today the Jazz illuminated its 12V battery warning symbol just after powering up and starting the engine . It came on and Bong sounded ! Booked in tomorrow at Honda to have it checked out . No other issue and all 12 v powered stuff lights wipers etc as normal . Car was parked overnight and been in use everyday for quite a few weeks so not be left unused . See what the garage concludes !

How old is the battery? Obviously good enough to power up the electronics, maybe showed too much of a dip
 to the micro afterwards?

Mine is also a Sep 21 but I've regularly used a CTEK to do it's stuff when I haven't used the car for a fortnight

I do like the claims that the CTEK reconditions the battery as part of its sequence

My previous 9G Civic was also very low mileage and still had the original battery when I p/x it at nearly 10 years old
Let's be careful out there !

It's quite common for 12V batteries to fail in EV's and hybrids as they're smaller than on ICE cars. I try and fully charge mine a couple of times a year with a trickle charger just for the health of the battery. The charge given by driving seems to be only just enough to keep it going and it never seems to get fully charged.

It’s with the dealer now so see what they find out ! Meanwhile have a HR-v to drive around in ! Bigger but not necessarily better . Engine is quieter but tyre noise is louder as is wind noise !

So the Honda dealer has enlisted Honda technical support as the 12v battery is charged and is receiving charge . Car has no error codes. Can’t find software gremlin so the puzzle continues !

hmm - what was your driving-pattern in the days (or weeks) before the incident?

If you were doing just shorter trips with e.g. heated seat(s) and steering wheel it is possible that the driving time just wasn't sufficient for the system to properly recharge the 12V battery.

just my 2ç

Addendum for clarification
These systems work "degressively", meaning: They consume a lot of power at the beginning in order to provide the requested comfort quickly and then use only a little to maintain it.
If you are doing only shorter trips, you never really get out of the high drain phase where the drain probaly exceeds the recharge rate.

My SR doesn’t have heated seats or steering wheel . Previous week done 350 Mile trip across Derbyshire and Lancashire in weekend returning right across M62 on mon 35 min commute to work 2x daily . So no difference to my driving style . Generally don’t do short journeys . The 12 v battery hasn’t gone flat the dealer checked that first and it’s normal .

That indeed should do the trick!

It will be interesting to learn what Honda says.

I wonder where the dealers clip or probe  their battery testing equipment. Is it possible they are getting a  good clean connection directly to the battery, while the car itself is getting some resistance in a connection further down the line.   I'm no expert. Just a thought.

Unlikely the 23 yr old technician will have experience in testing find a local tradesman to diagnose the fault/S.

It’s still within its Honda warranty so they are sorting it !

D M Keith have excellent experienced service technicians. I would be pretty certain they know what to do.

Indeed they have Nicksey! They haven’t seen this issue before so as no error codes registered they need Hondas help . Those fortunate owners to use DM K know how good they are !
