My Jazz will have to go
« on: May 08, 2023, 10:04:57 AM »
It's a neat little car but my COPD has got much worse over the last 6 months. I will have to back to an SUV to make getting in and out easier.

Sorry to hear this! Knowing that getting in and out of the Jazz is quite easy compared to so many other cars, I understand your condition is very serious. Take care.

that's bad news.

would the HR-V suit as it's based on the Jaxx but taller?

That is a very annoying reason to replace the Jazz. I wish you firstly health (and secondly a good replacement for the Jazz)!
If nothing goes right, go left!

It's a pity but health comes first and the higher driving position of an SUV can be really important in some health conditions.

I looked up the detail as to what the COPD medical abbreviation stands for and found it is "chronic obstructive pulmonary disease".
I am puzzled as to why it impacts a person getting into and out of the Jazz - would someone please assist me in resolving this puzzle?
Thanks in advance

It's good to see that you have done your research. COPD restricts my breathing, and the slightest task like hauling myself out of such a low car becomes very difficult for me.

Sorry to hear Jeff, I've downsized from a SUV (CX-30) and deemed the Jazz a bit to much of a drop so opted for the Crosstar with the seat in highest position it's manageable. Happy hunting for your next choice

Muscles need oxygenated blood to work properly . If you have breathing efficiency problems or heart ,or circulation problems they may not get enough oxygenated blood to undertake any extra work.

Someone who may be young enough, fit enough or slim enough may not  realise just how much muscle power is used to lower yourself into a low seat (in a controlled way) or haul yourself out again into a standing position.

Imagine if you were carrying a sleeping child or small adult? Would you have enough muscle power to lower yourself  carefully onto a low couch, or get up again ,while ,still carrying them?   How much easier it would be if you can perch your bum on a seat at about the same height and swivel your legs round.
Dont try it for real or you might strain your back and experience the problem some others have - muscle pain and flexibility issues.

edit.as a scientific experiment  I have just measured my pulse at rest using a pulse oximeter.   61bpm.  Then climbed some stairs and walked about a bit. Not a lot of effort but it went up to 71 bpm before dropping again.   My body craved more oxygen.

Is there really that much difference in seat height in the Crosstar?
The brochures give a difference in overall height of Jazz/Crosstar, of around 30mm. (including roof rails)
However, the difference in ground clearance is only 11mm, which leads me to conclude that the seat height will be a similar difference.
Given that the basic price difference is around £1k, is it worth it?

The difference in height between the Jazz and the Crosstar is minuscule.
