How to add pictures (images) to your posts
« on: August 31, 2009, 10:20:37 AM »
You can upload pictures (images) into your posts quite easily when posting a topic or reply - here's how:

Upload Image as Attachment

Images are uploaded from your computer and stored on our server.

1. Click on Attachments and other options below the area where you write your post.

2. Click Choose Fileand locate the image on your computer and click Open. Maximum image size and number of images allowed is displayed below.

Click More Attachments to add more images if required.

3. Click Post to finish. Your images will be displayed at the bottom of your post as thumbnails (small pictures) - click on them to view in a larger size.

Note that guests can't see attachments.

As these are stored on the server there is a limit on the attachment size. If this is a problem, please use the option below....

Link to External Images

Use this method to link directly to images stored on photosharing sites such as Flickr, Photobucket, etc., or on other websites.

Go to the toolbar row above the smilies and click on the second button from the left, and enter the url to the image in the pop-up box. The picture will be inserted in your post at the cursor position. Alternatively, you can place img tags can be placed anywhere in your post - just make sure the URL to your photo is inside the img tags as shown below:

Code: [Select]
remember to add the forward slash '/' before the second img tag or else the picture won't display correctly.

Pictures larger than 630 pixels wide can be viewed full sized by clicking on the picture.

Some websites don't like people linking to images on their websites as it increases their bandwidth and makes their site slow down. Therefore some images may not display in your posts or may disappear a few days later because the hosting site has blocked the pictures from outside sources.

The following photo sharing sites are free to use: No longer allows free sharing to external sites.

Pictures taken with most digital cameras maybe too large to upload when using the Attachments method. This restriction doesn't apply with using photosharing sites (at least not as far as Clubjazz is concerned), but larger pictures will take longer to download; it should be remembered that some visit Clubjazz using 3G mobile phone networks or even dial-up connection.

You can use software supplied with your computer such as MS Paint or Mac Preview to crop photos (remove unwanted background) but resizing may require the use of something more suitable.

Pixlr is a website that allows you to resize, crop and edit your photos quickly and easily for free. Here is a quick guide to resizing photos using pixlr:

Go to

Click on Open Pixlr editor (Advanced)

Click on Open image from computer

If wish to crop the photo, click on Image then Crop and select the area of the photo you wish to keep.

On the toolbar, click on Image then Image size.

Change the height and width - we recommend a width of 800px (the height will be adjusted to suit). Generally, the small the picture the less space it will take up and the quicker it will download.

If you wish to blur out the numberplate it is best to do it after resizing. The easiest way is to click on the Brush tool in the left toolbar marked Tools and draw a line through the numberplate.

Then click File then Save (you may need to specify an extension - e.g, mypicture.jpg).
