Car insurance increase
« on: January 04, 2024, 06:44:26 PM »
It is that time of year again.

Last year, Churchill, fully comp and green flag breakdown cost was £268.
Never made a claim, 10 years NCB, renewal quote £496. >85% increase.

Had a look on a compare site for same cover and excess, Darwin friends of Churchill £369.

I wonder why it has gone up so much, has anyone else a similar experience lately?

My quote has gone up 72%.
I have found a quote about £30 cheaper but is it worth changing.
I don't think so.

Apparently we are all paying the price for the extra cost involved in the repair of EVs, many of which are simply scrapped if the battery is damaged in any way.
And they claim that the cost of parts & labour is increasing anyway.

If mine increases by 75% in April then I'll be paying what I did in London before I moved

Then by Apr 2025 I should be car less

No point having a car when the only journeys I make is to charge the HV battery, 20 miles a month.

I'll keep it for the next year for DIY and tip runs after my house move
Let's be careful out there !

Thanks for the replies.
Maybe car insurance is going up across the board.
It is worth me changing to save £127. I will still be paying £101 more than last year though.

Yes it is going up across the board, but still worth ringing them to ask if they can do anything. Even if you know yourself you don’t want to move, and I am like that, they don’t know that and they “may” chip it for you, I know mine does. Any saving is worth a call, good luck .

£153.71 with LV last year , renewed recently , no changes same company , £236.72 . Managed to haggle £10 off.

The big 70 this year , anyone know what to expect in the way of premium rises for oldies  ;)

LV are no longer the company of the past, you can always hunt around 21 days before renewal date. Loyalty to customers went out of the window once companies went on line.
Worthwhile using some of the cash back sites for further savings. I did not notice any increases in 70 yr age premium however a lot of insurance people avoid 80+ age group.

I'm 72 this year that's probably why my premium has gone up 72%.

If you read these blogs I think you will find out that type of increase is pretty general, irrespective of age.

The thing that annoys me is the wife no longer drives so I am the only driver and the premium goes through the roof.
It doesn't make any sense to me

My broker friend has said it seems to be the over 70's who are seeing the highest rises :(
