Anti dazzle rear view mirror.
« on: December 20, 2021, 07:41:37 PM »
Another daft one from me.
At this time of the year ( darkness ) where I live I find that other road users are not particularly helpful or courteous  .Because I am not a boy racer, I find cars right up close and their lights dazzle me.
Busy roads, even the ' village idiot " drives a top of the range Mercedes !
My 11 year old grandson showed me the clip at the back of the mirror that diverts dazzle.
I take it that you all use this feature.
Should I leave the mirror in this mode all the time.
Thank you for your patience with me.

...I very rarely have cause to use it, and I definitely wouldn't leave it in that position.

I too seldom used it, once, but now as my eyes get older I find I use it almost continually when driving after dark (not that I go out much after dark if I can avoid it).
It is useless during the day in the dipped position. In fact, when I was learning to drive the bus I used to leave my car interior mirror dipped to reinforce the habit of moving my head to use the exterior mirrors. Must have worked because I passed.

I used to leave my 8G Civics on permanent dip. With the likes of Range Rovers with high DRL's I found it necessary.

Don't bother now, the privacy glass does the same job.
Let's be careful out there !

Privacy glass certainly makes  difference.  I just tried the mirror dipped during the day.  :o No way !

Use the "dip" position for all night-time journeys, normal position for day-time use.

My Jazz has the normal dipping mirror. On my previous car, (2019 BMW) the interior mirror had some clever glass that just didn't dazzle. It didn't need a dipping mechanism.
