It was announced today that Sir Stirling Moss has died, after a long illness. He was 90.
He was my boyhood hero, the best racing driver never to win a world championship.
It is a sad day for motor racing.

Denis Jenkinson's book about their 1955 Mille Miglia win was one of my most fascinating reads as a teenage boy.
They completed the almost 1000 mile race in just over 10 hours.
Their car, Mercedes 350 SLR number 722 is now reckoned to be the most valuable car in existence.

Just read Tim Brooke-Taylor of The Goodies has also died of Covid 19.
Loved the silly humour.
Soon I won't have any icons left

My 2p worth - when Stirling drove from Oulton Park to Aintree he passed swifty through the Mersey Tunnel.
The Tunnel police had Defender SWB single cab vehicles.
When he appeared in court his quote ?what 30 mph signs? .
Needles to say no-one at the time could match his journey between Birkenhead entrance & Liverpool exit.
