Screen washer out put weak
« on: December 11, 2017, 06:26:38 PM »
My 2014 Jazz which only has 7000 miles on the clock suffers from an inadequate output from the front windscreen washer nozzles -  they take a long time to start after pulling the lever and only have a very weak output. I've tried the usual remedies of cleaning the nozzles without any improvement. The supply pipe from the pump to the nozzles has a joint before it disappears in to the washer housing and if I uncouple it and operate the washer there seems to be a good flow and reasonable pressure so maybe the problem is in the housing eg squashed pipe or similar. I can't workout how to remove the cover in order to check the pipes in there - how do I remove it?
Any advice much appreciated.

Sounds like there is a blockage somewhere between the joint and the nozzles?
I would give it a shot to two from a bicycle pump and try and blow it through, there may well be a non return valve further on so the the fluid doesn't flow back down into the washer bottle.

Due to the fact that washer bottle is below level of the nozzles on both front and rear screen there has to be a non-return valve to stop washer fluid draining the pipes every time.  I know there is a non-return in pipe to rear nozzle as I had to replace it on my GD,  it is in gap where rear tailgate opens and the electrical cables and washer pipe go from main body to tailgate.  Don't know where front one is but this is a standard part from places like Halfords

Problem solved! After  looking again at the feed tube which I had already checked by separating it from the washer feed pipe I noticed that where the pipe went into the housing where the the nozzles are mounted  it had moved out of the place where it entered the housing and was being squeezed by the housing. I moved it back into the recess where it should have been and all now works fine. Strange how the answer is staring you in the face and you can't see it.
Many thanks to those who tried to help.
