Help... How can i repair a small dent with paint damage??
« on: April 09, 2017, 09:14:29 PM »
Hi all..
I'm new to all this car stuff... Having only being driving since December.

I've just reversed into a small metal post, what's the best way to repair it myself?

There is a dent on the boot door about an inch, and paint has come off.
Also a couple of cm size chips out of bumper paint.
I've attached photos.

I've never had anything to do with cars until now.
Panicking a bit as i got it through the motability scheme.

Thank you  :-[ :-*

Hi
Welcome to the forum.
I'm sorry about you're dent but most people get them some time in their driving history.
As you are obviously new to the whole idea of car repairs there are two things to consider.

Do you want to just stop any rust and paint over. Will look like a bodge and you will still get charged when you return your car for replacement (i believe as with all lease cars)?
OR
Do you bite the bullet and get a couple of quotes for a proper job and try and avoid going through the insurance.

If it's a new car I would take the latter course otherwise you'll end up paying for materials, paint etc and the job will still be obvious to a trained eye who will charge you again for a "proper repair" (what they consider one to be anyway.

Sorry but that's my view and feel free to disagree.

Good luck
John

Agree with John.

I doubt you can repair this yourself and make a good enough job that the mobility people will not notice.

Maybe have a google of dent/ smart repair places in your local area and get them over to have a look and get a couple of quotes.

Its hard to say but best to budget a couple hundred for the repair.

Good luck!

Search for an outfit called 'Chipsaway' they are very good at small repair jobs.

Welcome.
Agree with getting the job done professionally.
But why didn't the reversing sensors warn you that the post was there is my concern?

Agreed, the sensor being inches from the point of impact as shown in picture. Maybe the car was rolling backwards out of gear?

Is the car actually a motobility car supplied against your benefit? If so I understood you were covered for such eventualities. All part of the system.
I say this as I know of a person that regularly prangs her motobility vehicle. They just come along with a replacement.
Good luck, don't worry, we have all done it. Try hitting a bollard in a busy car park with a marked police car that's embarrassment.
