whos still on their original exhaust?
« on: February 19, 2016, 05:22:59 PM »
My jazz is coming up to 9 years old and is still on its original exhaust with 45k miles so far.

Anyone still on their original exhaust?

Year 2004, 95.000 KMs under the belt, original exhaust.
At stake.

Just trading in my 9 year old CR-V with nearly 120K on the clock. Original exhaust and never replaced a light bulb.

187000 miles, everything original except ONE sidelight bulb and the battery (damaged cell), but on a 61 reg Jazz.
208,000 miles, now blown THREE sidelight bulbs ! !
226,000 miles, still just the three sidelight bulbs

Very impressive. That will take some beating.

I'm old enough to remember when you seemed to be replacing exhausts every 2 years or so. Can't remember when I last had to do so.

I think exhausts used to be made of cheap recycled cans, but now exhausts have expensive catalytic converters in them the metal is a bit more substantial.

My Mk1 Jazz still has its original exhaust.  It is nearly 12 years old and has done 147,000 miles.

When you check the weight and quality (heavy aluminium coated steel, spring loaded ball and socket expansion joint at the front) of Honda original exhaust against the normal ones supplied by Quik-Quid (sorry quikfix) and their like you can see why they last so long,  another thing is that the CAT has made the exhaust fumes and condensate less corrosive than they were in pre-cat days.  Cheap ones tend to have a swivelly joint at the front (to allow it to line up) that goes solid once bolted up,  and is normally bedded in with some kind of cement to stop exhaust gas leaking out.

Only comparable ones are stuff like Bosal,  just like car batteries if you buy by weight you can't go wrong.

what kind of exhaust you fit when one does break is normally down to how much warning you had (they sometimes sound a bit blowy or 'chuffy'  for a while before they finally let go and you have time to get it looked at and order a decent one,  otherwise if you get caught out away from home or if you don't intend to keep the car you end up with quick / cheap 2 year guarantee one.

The one on my first Civic broke on a weld between pipe and first back box because of a pothole shocking it at about 8 years,  don't know how long it would have lasted otherwise.   My wifes first  Jazz exhaust went at about 10 years,  but only the back section.
Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot

Bought our 12 plate EX Jazz in October last year.  Had it for two whole weeks, before I had a large bore stainless steel system fitted by "Longlife" in Basingstoke. Guaranteed for life.
Reason, I've always had problems over the years with various car exhaust systems. Except a Citroen 24V XM. That was stainless as standard. So, as I intend to keep this car, maybe my last one in fact.
Wanted to know the exhaust wasn't going to fall off, as per our last 56 plate Jazz. Very noisey, and just a little embarrassing....

Mine's 54 plate. Mid section went on it a couple of months ago. Replaced with a cheap one for £60 including labour. I have access to some "really"back street garages. They don't want to fit expensive stuff even if you request them. Always talk you into buying the cheap stuff.
