Scary beeping alarm while driving my Honda Jazz SE 2002??
« on: February 10, 2014, 12:34:34 PM »
Hi guys

My Honda Jazz SE 2002 started beeping on the way home from work - it was very scary and very shrill as though the car thought the world was going to end. There was no warning lights, all the fluids are fine, Handbreak wasn't on.....I can't figure out what it was. I even turned the radio off. It seems to be in a series of 3 beeps and then silence for a few seconds before beeping again.

Anyone have any idea?!

I think I agree with mkjazz as I have put items on the passenger seat and the sensor in the seat detects the weight and triggers the seat belt warning!

The seat belt warning sounds very possible.
I believe there is an electrical connector under the seat so try disconnecting it and plugging it back in again.

Neither of my Jazz's have had a seat belt alarm, only a light, so couldn't be that. I've owned it for several months now and have moved with without my belt on before and it doesn't beep.

My 56 plate SE CVT has a drivers seat belt alarm.
It operates for six 'beeps' when the drivers seat is occupied on entering the car and the ignition key is in the 'run' position.
It does not operate from any passenger seat.

Is your interior light on when this happens?  could be faulty courtsey switch.

To test you can drive the car without your seat belt on under 10mph then slowly  increase to just when the seat belt warning sounds  = is this the same sound as your posting?

You have a 2002 Jazz, I think only the facelift Jazzes from 2004 54 plate onwards (1.4-litre engine with indicators in the door mirrors and all 1.2-litre cars) have the seat belt alarm. Earlier cars just have the warning light.

The seat belt alarm comes on as soon as the ignition is switched on if it detects the seatbelt is not fastened.

Could it be the warning that comes on when you open the door if the lights are still on? Maybe something there dodgy, like water inside the door switch.

Mine goes off after a few seconds, and only leaves the warning light on.

A face full of glass would probably upset them even more.

OBVIOUSLY she wears the seatbelt ... this is just how stupid arguments start on forum's

The issue is that the warning is loud and I am looking for a way so either silencing it or reducing the volume.

Anyone help - sensible responses only please chaps.

If she is wearing the seat belt why the comment in your post about 'other than fastening the seatbelt' - the law says you should fasten the seat belt BEFORE you start the engine and stop the engine before you undo the belt (you would no doubt fail your driving test if you did not do that),  in which case the alarm should never normally go off.
