Help-my cats been nicked
« on: July 29, 2018, 06:11:16 PM »
Good afternoon all, new member here and already asking for help.
Some thieving little sod has cut my daughters cat off her 2006 1.4 Jazz and is probs down the pub drinking on the £50 he got for it at the scrap dealers  >:(
My problem is (apart from buying a new cat, centre exhaust, 2 sensors etc etc, and having to fix it on the side of a busy road) the little sod has ripped the plug end off the engine wiring harness for the 1st sensor, they cut the last sensor cable. I now just have 4 wires hanging from the engine harness ! Can anyone offer any advice on how to either replace the plug or join the wires together ?

Thanks in advance

G

Get the police involved is my advice.
Sorry that's all I can offer.

Hi, thanks for the sympathy. Reported to the Police, waste of time, case was opened & closed in under 60 seconds, no cctv, no witnesses Ha Ha ! would have done better asking the ice cream man, Police are useless, thanks though.

Have you a breakers yard nearby?

What should the Police have done, that they didn't?

Have you a breakers yard nearby?

Other than an insurance claim, trebor has the answer.

Smaller breakers especially have cars lying about half broken, and they may be able to help you with the loom part which connects to the sensors, and possibly the rest of the bits you need. It's just a matter of spending a few hours ringing around to find a Jazz that hasn't been fully stripped yet. You can then splice these bits of loom to your car, ideally using solder and shrink sleeving, shrink sealing crimps, or just to get you away, twist the wires and tape.

Alternatively, you could buy the generic solder-in replacement lambda sensor/s, extend the wiring that's left and fit some generic connectors. This obviously may have implications down the road if someone later tries to fit a replacement sensor with the correct connector.

Either way, you're going to have to be able to see what you are doing. Is there any way you could get it moved to somewhere more suitable?

Hi, thanks for the reply.
Yes, car is drivable now, I've just left the front sensor off to move it & used a blanking plug on the cat. I guess a breakers yard is the only option as a new part loom from Honda would be costly. I was hoping for a heads up on the wiring colours, they all appear to be white ??
Maybe I can get a part loom from the breakers
Thanks again

Not by any means certain about this, but if there's only two wires to each sensor then it may not matter which way around they're connected.

You can get generic sensors and they often suggest cutting off the old connector and soldering the wires onto the wiring for the new one.

Hi Rory,
Thanks for the reply.
There are 4 wires from the engine harness in the socket, problem is working out which wires connect to what in the sensor lead ?
Have tried some local breakers but not one has the loom I need !
Can't get hold of a Haynes manual until tomorrow either to look at a wiring diagram.

Thanks G

Haynes manual is useless. I checked mine as soon as I read the original post and there is nothing. What wiring info they give only pertains to lights, horn, that sort of stuff. Time was the Haynes manual was worth it's weight in gold. Now it is just a waste of money. I think they must have given in to the internet!

Hi Jocko,
Thanks for the info on the Haynes manual, i'll cancel the order from Halfords !
Have found a breaker with a couple of Jazz so i'm off there now, hopefully be able to get part of the loom and splice it onto mine. As was said before if the sensor ever goes again it'll be a nightmare to change.
Real shame it's a lovely car, 38000 miles & got it for a good price, I can't believe how much room is in it. I've already tackled the leak into the boot, thanks to this forum it was an easy job.

Thanks again for the info

Morning all,
Thought I'd update this post as the Jazz is now roadworthy, hope this doesn't happen to anyone else.
I found that scrapyards cut the sensor wire so you can't get a sensor connector (you can't buy the plug from Honda either) but if you spend an hour there you are able to get to the other end of the sensor wire & plug from the engine harness. All you need to do then is release the harness wires from the plug & put your wires into it (note where the wires are located in the plug). Bingo, job done, other problem is with a standard OBD reader you can't reset the warning lights, it will turn them out but would come on when engine was started. I had to take it to a specialist as you need to get into the ECU to reset from there. Total cost was over £500 & a lot of grief !
Thanks to those that offered assistance.

Good to hear that you got sorted out. Sometimes these jobs can be a nightmare, chasing bits that aren't readily available.

As you say, you hope it doesn't happen to anyone else, but at least there's a bit of info here now if it does.  :)
