Hi everyone. I hope someone out there can help me. This topic has been posted before by Jimbo in 2018 who said he had found you can remove the sliders by tapping with a mallet? Can't see how. I really need more detailed information as sliders can be bought for £50, but a seat is £500. Anyone know how to remove/replace them?

Just checked the Haynes for the Mk1, I doubt it has changed much. It says there are bolts front and rear accessed by sliding the seat and removing a plastic cover. It also warns to disconnect the battery and leave it at least 3 minutes. This is so you don't set off the side airbags when disconnecting the seat from the wiring loom.

Absolutely, you must always follow this procedure before any disturbance of airbags or seat belt tensioners. This is to discharge the back up capacitors in the devices, to minimise the chance of accidental activation.

Thats to remove the seat. I have done that. It is how to remove and replace the sliders I need help with.

Oops sorry. Right on the electrics, bolts and covers are for the seat rails though. As I say, aumming Mk2 is like Mk1.

You will have to grind off one of the rail rivets. I guess it would be wiser to grind off rear rivet for obvious crash mitigation reasons.
In my photo you can see the rivet top right.
