Key Cover
« on: October 03, 2021, 11:12:27 AM »
What I need is some bespoke hard plastic cover for the key buttons.

I seem to be regularly accidentally pressing the buttons on the fob, in my pocket, when I twist to get out causing the series of beeps telling me it won't lock because the key is still inside the car.
Let's be careful out there !

Have you got other keys on the key ring? I found that one particular other key I had due to is shape would actually press the buttons if laid flat across the fob, so I changed the order of the keys on the ring so that key was never flat on to the fob.

The key fob fits perfectly in the little pocket in my jeans.

Most folks put small change in there but storing a pocket watch was its original purpose.

I do have 2 other keys on there, those large Ultion ones.

I need them all together or scatterbrain here will go out and forget the house keys.

I'll try putting them in with keys on both sides to see which way is causing the issue ....... but I'll still look out for some form of cover as I never use the buttons. All the ones on Amazon JP are designed to still press the buttons through the cover.

Thanks

I do have 2 other keys on there, those large Ultion ones.

I have the house keys separate from the car key fob, so that I can comfortably fit them in my running shorts when doing the local parkruns.

Ultions are good: pin-in-pin dimple locks. I have Avocet ABS on mine which is similar but less bulky.

I've just spent quite some time trying to get the keys to press the buttons and it's impossible so the buttons must be being pressed by me.

I think the answer could be to ensure the keys are folded over the buttons to shield them ....... or I need to lose weight :)

I've been looking at key covers that will protect the Honda key from getting scratched by the other keys on the ring. Maybe one of those would do what you want. I'm not sure I want to spend this much on them!

Thanks

I looked at those but I think I need something to cover the unused buttons.

I've tried all manner of positioning the keys to press a button and ...... nope. It has to be with the keys on the reverse and either me or my hankie doing the deed.

I think this maybe the answer, pocket them this way round :

My solution is simple but not that popular apparently.
Key>Keyring>mini carabiner>clip on trouser belt loop. SImples!
House keys in trouser pocket.

We keep our key in a rectangular case to prevent cloning. It has a chain and clip inside to hold the fob and a clip on the outside for household keys.
I would prefer not to have to use it but it does prevent button presses. On most occasions just flipping the case open is enough for it to be detected by the car. Unfortunately, it isn't jean pocket friendly though.

Yes, it's a thought. In my case, I'd worry about leaving my house keys indoors. If they are all on one ring that cannot happen.

I haven't worn jeans for decades.

My cheap and nasty Sports Direct joggers don't have any belt loops for keys.

I spotted this but the bad reviews sound a bit more convincing about quality:

I think I added the internal clip as a speed feature for when I hand the key over at service etc. I like ours as it it is just one quick pop of the press stud.

The Jazz keys can be turned off so I hope I don't need to use the Faraday pouch's I bought for the BMW.

Ditto here - you beat me to it. That key is too much of a lump to put in a pocket.
