Mugen Style Twin loop exhaust muffler
« on: December 07, 2014, 05:48:47 AM »
Hi guys, I'm in two minds in purchasing this twin loop muffler by OBX ,which is identical to the Mugen muffler. its a universal fit so i think wielding will be required.there is a youtube link of the muffler that i have posted below, its just how i wanted it to sound. It has a very suttle sound when started and at mid range rpm, it starts to growl when its in the higher rpm range. what are your thoughts on this ?

No.

I remember this was a hot topic back in the day when I had my CTR. The mugen twin loop was tested on the EP3 type-r and found to actually LOSE power. Nice sound though.

No, the back box alone will not contribute in increasing performance at all in the in tiny L13a engine. I didn't go  for it at the end, there are a few honda fit videos on YouTube where owners have installed a honda civic type r ep3 back box. It seemed quite cool and it wasn't loud at all.so I found a brand new ep3 back box and had it fitted to my jazz.i must say im really impressed with the sound is on point in the lower rev range, you have to give it a good rev to hear it open up. I'll try recording a video to show you guys.   :D

EIR247 - did the fitment of the ep3 backbox require welding or any garage assistance?  Looking at doing this myself as my backbox has rusted off. Any help and idea of costs will be appreciated.  Thanks.

Hi LMB, yes the ep3 back box did need welding. I took it to a garage and they cut the connector off the old exhaust and it was welded on to ep3 back box, as the  ep3 back box would not bolt on as the diameter was larger than the oem connection. The hooks holding up the exhaust also needed to be cut and lowred for a neat finish. The back box cost me around 60 pounds from eBay, the welding and fitting cost 40 pounds.
