extra noises when aircon is used....
« on: July 19, 2013, 05:33:31 AM »
quick query (i hope...)
due to the hot weather i am using the aircon a lot more and while cooling the car down, it was making all the usual noises.
however there is an extra buzzing noise that i haven't heard before, sort of like when a fanbelt is running out of true. it's a rubbing noise rather than a squeal (think crickets) and am wondering whether it is anything to be worried about. i know there is plenty of gas in the system so i know it's not going to be that.....

any ideas?

update....

judicious squirt of wd40 sorted it. at least it seems to have shut up.....

Where did you squirt?  More than likely it was some dust you picked up

theres an exposed bearing left hand side just behind the fanbelt, to the left of the block. careful listening (it's quiet round here....) and a bit of guess work located the squeak, only when the aircon was on, so either a bearing was dry or the a/c clutch was on the way out. seems to have to worked. might only be temporary but i'll mention it at the next service.....
