Touch up paintwork
« on: August 25, 2022, 11:09:59 AM »
I need to prepare and repaint a few stone chips on the bodywork, mainly on the bonnet/bumper and around the sill/lower door region either side. Never done this before. I will be using the Honda touch up paint kit (Storm Silver). Seems to me it is the usual routine of 'Kurust', basecoat/key and final coat. There does not appear to be a final protective lacquer topcoat in the kit. I want to do a decent job if poss so any tips or links would be appreciated. Thanks.

The latest Honda kits I've had have been basecoat and lacquer.

Depending on the size of the chips it may be easier to get some really fine point brushes from the likes of Hobbycraft. I've tried the cocktail stick trick and it still puts too much in.
Let's be careful out there !

Another vote for Chipex. Takes a bit of practice to get the technique but the results and colour match are excellent

Yes, you are quite right. I checked this afternoon. The kit includes paint and lacquer. No primer.

For the Chipex boys. Just had a look at some You Tube vids. Seems to get good reviews.

My paintwork skills are appalling, Stevie Wonder could do better!  ;D

I remember following the step by step guide in the haynes manuals years ago, but the end result looked nothing like the example in the book! A bit like Homer and his BBQ if you remember it..."Why doesn't mine look like that!" ;D
