Can the Honda Jazz be towed
« on: May 30, 2022, 09:31:17 PM »
In the hopefully rare case that the 2022 Jazz was to breakdown can it be towed or does it need to be put on a transporter ?

As per a lot of modern auto vehicles and per the above manual link, the front wheels must be lifted off the ground.
Let's be careful out there !

I know from Toyota hybrids that they don't actually have a neutral - when you put the car in neutral I believe it uses battery power to simulate a neutral gear!

Some people have used car washes where you are pulled along by a chain, and have to have the car in neutral... except when the car is in neutral it prevents the petrol engine from charging the HV battery and you can run into issues.

The electric drive motor is permanently coupled to the wheels, so it would spin when the car is towed.
However, I can't see why, if the ignition is off and the car is in 'neutral', it cannot be towed at a reasonable speed. Perhaps someone can give a technical reason, as to why it is not allowed.

My guess is that it would cause significant overheating.

..and I, as a native Dutchman, can't help you here... Maybe it's 日本 (Japanese)

I think it's better just to follow the manual without asking why...

I'd probably only risk being towed on a tow rope for a very short distance, such as help getting out of mud or snow. In these circumstances the front wheels will either be in drive anyway  attempting to  assist with its own traction , or will freewheel anyway, or if they are locked solid by the electric drive or whatever ,   they will slide easy enough across  the mud or snow.

Otherwise its  a full or front lift.

In our car and in most of EVs used traction electric motor with permanent magnets, when front whells spins this motor produces power also if car not powered on, if during towing front whels will spin this will damage HV electrical system.

Having collected my EX a few days ago, I discovered in the boot, along with the tyre sealant gunge, a screwdriver, the electric pump, a substantial towing eye. ::)

Is it a towing eye or what they use to secure to a transporter ?
