Roof bars?
« on: April 10, 2022, 10:00:08 AM »
I could do with some roof bars for my Mk4 EX. Cox's quote £406.33 for genuine Honda bars. Do you have experience of a cheaper alternative?

I’ve used Cruz bars for a couple of cars, they did the job very well.

Otherwise pick up the separate parts of Thule bars from the likes of eBay etc.

The only roof bars I have ever used I made myself.  ;D Over engineered ,and relatively heavy. Not something I am advocating

But this also seems to be the case with commercial ones.   Thule  ,and possibly  others,  make   'square ' profile ones in steel  which are significantly cheaper  than their  own  'designer' ones made in alloys with  aerodynamic bar shape and the like.
The choice may depended on how often you will have them fitted. Even the best aerodynamic ones can increase fuel consumption quite significantly if left on longer than necessary.

Thanks for replies so far. I don't mind non aerodynamic bars; They'll be holding a roof box or carrying timber. I reckon Thule ones will be the ones I'll settle on.

If I had realised that I cannot have a towbar to pull my little metal trailer with my EX, I might have chosen a different car   :(
