The only roof bars I have ever used I made myself.
Over engineered ,and relatively heavy. Not something I am advocating
But this also seems to be the case with commercial ones. Thule ,and possibly others, make 'square ' profile ones in steel which are significantly cheaper than their own 'designer' ones made in alloys with aerodynamic bar shape and the like.
The choice may depended on how often you will have them fitted. Even the best aerodynamic ones can increase fuel consumption quite significantly if left on longer than necessary.
