Rear window demist issue
« on: April 04, 2022, 04:37:20 PM »
Hi, I've just bought my 2005 Jazz - to save some money on petrol!! I'm sorting out a few niggles.  The first was to get all the electric windows to work - which I traced to bad contacts in the switches in the drivers door - carefully taking this apart and cleaning the contacts worked (I can share how to do this with anyone that might be interested).  If anyone wants a second hand passenger side and rear drivers side window regulator let me know - I bought these thinking that was the problem!

I'm now trying to get the rear window demist to work.   The light on the switch comes on and there is 12V to the wire which connects to the heater element WHEN it is disconnected from the element (there is also a good earth on the other side).  When the wire is reconnected to the element the volts drop to zero - which indicates to me a bad connection somewhere upstream, possibly the relay, or a connector block somewhere.  I can hear the relay clicking in the fuse box under the dash - but don't know which relay it is (I can't feel it switching with my finger).

Does anyone know which relay it is - or better still have a full wiring diagram that relates to my car?  I've looked at http://www.hondafitjazz.com/manual.html but that isn't my model of car (I can tell because there is no relay on the wiring diagram and it suggests fuse 12, when I know it's fuse 9).

Any help gratefully received!

There was a safety recall on the Mk1 Jazz/Fit for the driver side window switches, more details here:

Hi olduser1, yes, I thought that link should be a match too - but it isn't unfortunately.  On the wiring diagram the fuse number is wrong (12 instead of 9) and there is no relay on the diagram.  I'll search through the old posts and see if I can find anything.  Many thanks.

I sorted the problem. Where the rear offside light access is, there is a connector for the loom that goes up to the hatch back. The loom is tight and had pulled the connector loose. It was still making contact, but poorly. Heated rear window now working and the rear wipe is no longer intermittent.
