Sales Disappointing in Japan
« on: December 09, 2021, 09:31:34 AM »
I pass this on as I heard it. Honda are rather disappointed with sales of the new model in Japan and the most common view is that the front is a bit ugly and that has depressed sales. There is perhaps something in this? I personally think it looks fine from any angle except low down (eg sitting in another car) and directly in front. From that viewpoint it almost looks aggressive.

Overall I think it is a very good looking car but it is perhaps a bit let down by the styling (not the shape) of the front.

European sales for the past 12 years as follows:

2020   - 25.182 units
2019   - 30.730
2018   - 37.894
2017   - 34.898
2016   - 37.005
2015   - 30.510
2014   - 37.645
2013   - 42.548
2012   - 49.134
2011   - 57.440
2010   - 59.291
2009   - 75.456

For 2021 in Europe, the Jazz seems on track to just about exceed 2020 sales (about 26.5k units vs 25k in 2020).

The Honda E is widely considered to be a loss maker, even with its high cost. Is the Jazz the same?

You can argue that, as it has a much higher sticker price than the Mk3, it should be profitable. But that, of course, depends upon it meeting sufficient sales volume.

If domestic Japanese sales are considered disappointing then how does Honda view European sales? And, as the Fit is no longer sold is the US and Canada, they won't be making up the shortfall in countries like South Africa and New Zealand for sure...

I guess the worrying thing for us Honda fans is a potential pull out of the UK and/or Europe. There is a Mitsubishi franchise round the corner from me and they are maintaining Mitsubishi cars already sold but are emphasising their newly acquired MG Franchise.

MG seem to be on a roll. They have 2 dealerships in Warrington now - the other one is Holdsworth Honda where I purchased my car.

I honestly see very few weird vehicles on the roads here - I suppose there were more in the past but there weren't very many really. The whole weird Japan thing is very much overblown and exaggerated IMO. The majority are boxy Kei cars that all look a bit the same. In that line Honda are doing very well with their N Box.

When I saw the headline I automatically thought of the 'fugliest' car I will have ever owned (sorry jazzik) the HR-V e:HEV.
I am not overwhelmed by the Jazz, but it's ok. the Crosstar, is, imo, better.

I admit I am a Luddite that likes a bit of blingy Chrome on a car. It's my age I suppose.
The front of my new car will be having some changes made, but I am not wasting the farcical 550 on a different grille.

The front is not my favourite  feature.

I saw this on ali express that might interest some.   It has carbon fibre effect and glues on with 3 m tape.

I found I didnt dislike the front  enough to spend  56 plus possible import duties ;D
