Honda Jazz 1.4 ES semi automatic - spark plugs help
« on: November 06, 2020, 06:17:51 PM »
Hi I need to get some spark Plugs for service do I need 4 or 8 ? I also seen in euro car parts after putting my reg  that they are from £12-20 each spark plug . After bit of research I need iridium plugs ?

Can anyone help me out to clarify how many I need and if there’s and good deals about or if youve used anything other than NGK Bosch Denso

I just had them done three weeks ago by my independent garage. You only need 4 but iridium, so not cheap. NGK is the best as as they were not in stock, my garage used Bosch.

You list your car as a 2006 model in which case it has the DSI ( DUAL Spark Ignition) and therefore I think that you will find that it needs 8 plugs.

Anyone recommend what’s the cheapest plugs ? Or is the Denso ones reasonably priced (attached ) ?  I figured I now need 4 :)

If you want plugs that will last, you need all iridium.
(Beware ebay some platinum tipped plugs are called "Iridium". And lots of fakes around.

The cheapest quality plugs appear to be Bosch - twin iridium Approx £25- £35 for 4. as opposed to the most expensive at £23 each!

I found the easiest way to find the cheapest is:
1. decide on which plug you want.
2. Google for best price for 4 off...(cheaper than 4  x 1off)
3. Check the supplier has good reviews/feedback etc.
4. Any doubts buy form another.

There ARE lots of fakes around. (did I say that before? There are)

Occasionally ebay has some once off deals. Check feedback first before buying. Did I say there were fakes?
You can set up and save a search on ebay and Gumtree  to email when a new listing meets your criteria..

Just buy from eurocarparts...they are not the cheapest but at least wouldn't be fake and if they supply the wrong ones, you can exchange them. Also Cox Honda sometimes do good deals on line. Make sure you fit the correct ones.

You need NGK DIFR6D13 or Denso DK20PR-D13. I prefer NGK. Honda fit both NGK and Denso, and NGK are easier to get hold of.

Some folk are fitting the cheaper BOSCH plugs, not heard any bad reports.

I'd just go with the cheap but cheerful NGK BKR6E-11 and replace them sooner.

Iridium plugs are supposed to last to 100,000km but by 80,000km when I got my vehicle they were toast,
Recently fitted the NGK BKR6E-11 and the power and fuel economy immediately picked up

The biggest driver for fitting these iridium plugs is the mileage between changes - at a dealer, you're going to pay a lot more to fit three sets of steel plugs than it will cost to fit one set of iridium, simply because of the labour costs. The listed plug for this engine is the NGK DIFR6D13, and that's what the dealer would fit.

There is some logic in fitting iridium even if you DIY - it's a bit of a job to get the plugs on the VTEC, I'm not sure I would want to do that every 2 years unless I had to. If you don't mind the dismantling to get to the plugs, the steel tipped plugs are cheap, and it would be interesting to hear how many other VTEC owners are using the BKR6E-11.

As for longevity, 100,000Km or 72,000 miles does seem rather a lot, but not having had a VTEC long enough to change the plugs, I wouldn't know if it's a problem. On a Ford I had with the 2.3 engine, I know that the tips on the platinum plugs were almost burnt off by the time the 40,000 interval was up - you had to change them, or you would soon have problems.

I thought the MkII was a ********** to change the plugs but removing the wipers and cowl isn't such a big hassle, fine for every 2yrs.

If doing it DIY I'd rather use cheaper plugs and change more often.

My old iridiums I pulled out looked visuallu surprisingly good but they were buggered.
