Back in the 60's parking lights were clip on devices that you hung on the driver's window.
If you left your car parked overnight, with the sidelights on (and it was a legal requirement to do so, even in lit streets), your battery would probably be flat in the morning.
It was only later that the circuits were organised so you could leave the indicator in the offside position and the front and rear sidelights would illuminate.
According to the Vehicle Lighting Regulations (1989) their official title is now "Position Lights" so the Honda manual uses the official parlance.
