Title: Maintenance message
Post by: Wonder on May 25, 2022, 06:42:39 PM
Hello,
today the maintenance request light came on in 29 days,
but I don't understand why the writing also came out:

B: Frame inspection

Is it normal for this writing to appear?
Thanks for the info.
(Sorry for the mistakes I used Google Translate)

Yes, it’s normal.

On the variable servicing scheme there are two different types of service - A and B.

My first service was a B service ‘chassis inspection’ but then I had to take the car back a few weeks later to have the A service oil change done as well.

I’m now on fixed servicing, so every 12.5k miles / 12 months they do the equivalent of A and B services together.

Hello,
but where is this maintenance information A or B indicated? I have not found in the use and maintenance manual where it talks about the possibility of choosing whether to do a fixed maintenance at km or over time, and I have not even found where it talks about A or B.
On which page do I find this information?
and how do i choose?
Thanks for the replies

If you look in the service book instead of the owners manual it lists all the things they check on an A and a B service.

I think all new Jazz and other Hondas come set to variable servicing as standard, but you can ask the dealer to switch to fixed servicing.

Here is the schedule from my car service book:

Hello,
thanks for the photo, I had only looked at the use and maintenance manual online, tomorrow when I go by car I will check my service booklet.
I don't know whether to choose the variable system or the kilometer system,
I do a few kilometers in a year, but in any case the car must go to the mechanic at least once a year in order not to make the warranty expire (for example on batteries).
Some advice?

For me, the fixed service is much better as I don’t want to be going to the dealer any more than necessary.

If I had been on fixed service then one trip would have done the A and B service together, instead of having to bring the car in two separate times.

My one has just done 2900 miles, 10 mths old and the spanner light has come on already? At least it's free for me as I got the five yrs free services but still!

Having to visit a dealer, especially if they aren't local, must be inconvenient for some.

This variable servicing would be fine if it totally reset but there are posts here of a dealer visit then the maintenance pops up again within weeks to have something else done.

I'm having mine turned off in August at my first service.

Good idea! On my old 09 Jazz is turned off. I always have a service at my MOT so that's fine.

This option for variable or fixed servicing intervals puzzles me. Every car I've had this century (VW, BMW) has had variable servicing as a no-choice default. I thought that it was a feature of modern technology that it's the car's EMU that decides when and if a service is due. And that the idea of a fixed annual service was a 20th century anachronism. So I'm wrong?

And I am surprised that many here are opting for fixed service intervals. My VW and BMW's EMUs have demanded servicing only every couple of years - certainly not as frequently as annually.

Apologies - I'm not sure what my question is! But could anyone shed light please on what appears to be an odd situation with the Jazz. Do many other car brands still have fixed service intervals these days?

I've been told by 3 dealers (pre Mk4 Jazz) that the Honda variable servicing is illogical and they always disabled it.

They'd all seen owners coming in within months of purchasing new, or after a service and reset, with only a few thousand miles on the clock with a dashboard service demand.

We've seen posts here, within the year, where a 'chassis check' was due, performed, with another servicing popup a very short while later for an A or B service.

I had my variable servicing turned off this week and I will follow the 12,500 miles or 1 year, whichever comes first. As a result my service book was stamped.

The last thing I want is potentially having 3 dealer visits within the year.

When I picked up my Jazz, day 2, it was saying 360 days, not 364 as expected, and a very short while later, probably less than a month, it was showing 190 days. At that time I had about 200 miles on the clock so I manually reset it. It then behaved itself and no popups even though the first year was due first week Sep.

Thanks for those insights Kremmen - it really sheds light on the situation for me.

I have bought a used Jazz, and it was oil-serviced at 7 mths old, which concerned me a little - why.  Your post now explains that adequately.
