This is another case of the tester having no idea how the CVT actually goes about its business. Floor the throttle in a CVT and the revs and engine noise rise instantly and the car accelerates. This exactly what happens if you drive a manual gearbox in the same way. You change down, the revs and engine noise rise and the car accelerates .

It's either what Vic says or possibly underlining the fact that they shouldn't have been "improving" the CVT control program.

It is interesting though that a few testers say they prefer the manual on the Jazz - of any variant.

The Parker's review provides some useful insights about how the CVT behaves:

I would be looking for a car that cruises quietly and won't be upset by some temporary engine noise when it bursts into life to enable some overtaking.

Strikes me that the people who write these 'reports' expect all cars to perform as if they all have 3 litre power units under the bonnet. :-)
