CD Player rejecting CDs
« on: May 14, 2008, 07:25:51 PM »
Hoping somebody can offer some help or advice on this.

My wife's got a 54 plate Jazz with the old-style stereo in it.

Last week it started rejecting CDs whenever you try to load one.

If you put the CD, it sounds like it's trying to read it and it's then rejecting it straight out.

Has anybody else had similar probs with this type of stereo ? If you did, how did you get it sorted.

Any advice appreciate.

I guess youve already tried different CDs...
If you normally play CD-Rw's, try normal audio CDs

If it is down to a fault it may require a new radio/CD unit   :-[ not much repairable bits in a car radio methinks.

Edit by admin - replaced smileys

Tried many different CDs so don't expect it's the CDs which are the problem.

Spoke to local Honda dealer who quoted £1100 for a replacement.

Have looked on e-bay and none on there - anybody managed to source a replacement for a more reasonable cost ? Again, any suggestions where would be appreciated.

Ebay would be your best bet, just keep searching as I have seen them pop up regularly.

Also something worth trying is using a compressed air duster and see if that makes any difference i.e. using the straw in the cd slot and blasting it with compressed air

But it might need to be taken out and opened up and then blasted with compressed air

You can buy compressed air cans from PC World or maybe DIY stores.

They are useful for blowing dust and grit from sensitive electronics and are used by computer engineers when servicing equipment.

Just a quick update and info for anybody else with a faulty stereo, I found these guys :

on the web. Based in Bath, they've quoted me £ 100 for a repair, which sounds reasonable. Certainly more reasonable than Honda's £ 1100........
