« on: August 22, 2020, 07:51:06 PM »
I’m still having issues with engine hesitation on my 2019 reg 1.5  jazz sport after a year it’s intermittent around 2000 revs or just above has anybody got any ideas what could be wrong it’s not showing any fault codes or engine management lights it’s been back to dealer 10 times now and they can’t find the fault I feel like I’m been fobbed off thank you in advance  :-X

Just a hunch based on similar commnts elsewhere on other forums. What fuel do you use? Perhaps try Shell V Power for a tank or three. It is the only fuel I ever use.

I have not really any hesitation but I have a small jerk sometimes around the same rpm when slightly accelerating after longer period of even driving or slight deceleration. I've read about similar behaviour on US fitfreak.net forum.

I experience something similar now and again with my Mk1 1.2. I have put it down to the sensitivity of the electronic throttle position sensor. On one gentle ascent, it is evident if I move my foot at all (even curling my toes).

A known cause of a slight engine hesitation in the ivtech engine is the variable valve timing changing over at about 2500rpm. On some cars it is more marked than others, I hardly ever notice in my 1.4 Jazz but in my sons 1.8 Civic it is quite noticeable at about 3000rpm.
If a dealer charges you every time you take the car back for examination they will be happy for you to keep taking it back.

Vic.

It’s under warranty so there’s no charge the car is just over a year old I think there is a few people with the same issue so I think Honda need to look into it and sort it

My hunch on this is fuel based often a weak mixture situation then when opening the throttle it jerks a little. Not sure what might cause this possible the ECU or a slight air leak near the inlet side.

I think it's feature of the fuel injection program, not a bug. And due to manufacturing tolerances it is more prominent in some cars as in others. I've noticed it since brand new, and even now I have less than 3000 km driven.

Just to add, that in my car the jerk is very similar to the air-conditioning engaging, so it is rather mild, but noticeable.

I wanted to find out what they actually wrote in fitfreak.net forum and this is the theory from member Bassguitarist1985:

"This is how the ECM is programmed. It will always default to a lean burn until called upon for more power, either first by throttle position then rpm. The stumble caused when the engine goes from lean to ideal fuel/air ratio, the few cycles transitioning from each mix is when this stumble happens."

I'd buy his theory.

The alternative is to trade in the Jazz Sport for the Mk 4 which suffers no such hesitation. The battery provides the initial blast of power (with loads of torque) while the engine gets itself organised. However, there will be situations where the Mk 4 can't match the much higher power of the Sport's engine. Going up a long steep hill at high speed comes to mind.

I didn't notice mentioned problems in my Jazz 1.5. The engine is fantastic. No hesitation or jerk. And I'm sensitive to this.
