fuel filler neck
« on: December 24, 2021, 02:07:06 AM »
i dont know if i am dreaming but i filled up today and the little round hole the pump nozzle goes in at the bottom of the filler neck i could have sworn there was a little metal cover inside but today it was just a hole and no cover that the pump pushes out of the way

anyone else have this little cover ?

There is a little spring-loaded flap in the neck. When I pour Redex in I open the flap with the handle of a wooden spoon otherwise half the Redex runs down the side of the car.

I had a look at my 68 plate Jazz EX this morning.   I shone a torch into the filler hole and could not see any flap.  I also put the handle of a wooden spoon about 150mm into the neck and did not feel any flap.  I could not explore any further as the filler pipe seems to take a bend about 150mm in

thanks guys, it must be be thinking back to my mk2 jazz or something, just glad its normal not to have a flap like on your 68 plate that has fallen off into the tank or something, probably cost cutting as it is on your mk1

cheers

The purpose of the spring loaded flap is to prevent the fuel gushing out of the tank in the event that the car turns over.
