And what exactly does a journo star rating mean? Nothing. My car, rated 3/5 by the same publication, has nearly 130k fault free miles under its belt. I wonder how many 5/5 star, invariably German motors, can say that?

Mind at best part of £50k, I would call that motor a tricky sell. Personally, I'd save myself £30k and buy a nearly new Jazz. If I had to have a new car, again, save £30k and buy a Dacia. 4 wheels and keeps the rain off you. Who's going to spend best part of £50k on 4.4m 'yawn all the same' small suv?

Honda need to rediscover some value and extend their warranties to get some volume sales. £50k small ev's are a bit niche in image obsessed UK. Sadly.

Agree

It is well known that journos give better ratings to vehicle manufacturers that advertise in their rag

I remember reading a side by side lengthy review once where it was clear that car A was better than car B. Move to the final verdict section where car B came out on top, why, because car B was a VAG and they had multiple adverts running through the rag
Let's be careful out there !

Cars progress.  Its inevitable that some new cars  on the market may impress motoring  journalists in some ways.  Cars that got 5 stars last year  are  downgraded otherwise they would have to award the new one 6 stars. etc.

Fair enough so far. Except motoring journalists are notorious for raving about different 'qualities' than real world owners. Or rate things based on  specification numbers  , not real world competence  .  And for copying each others reviews and may never have actually driven a Jazz , or even the new kid on the block.

That said I expect Honda pay attention to competitors. As will I when the time comes to change the Jazz.

Honda haven't quite hit the mark with their EV offerings, when you consider an HR-V with similar spec can be bought for under £35K it's difficult to justify the extra expense when the hybrid driving experience is hardly any different to an EV.

The star rating has absolutely nothing to do with reliability. All newly reviewed cars are NEW! so no idea of reliability.
The star rating is the car in general, comfort, road holding, speed, Comparison with other eVs re charging rates, range etc. Boot space, practicality blah, blah, blah.

As a teenager I was lucky to have the MOTOR magazine bought for me by my mother and so spend many hours reading some great articles . Journalists such as Peter Dron and Russell Bulgin had an enormous appetite for cars and said it how it was -in a totally objective and professional way. Supported by long term car tests it showed what could go wrong in daily use . A poor Volvo 240 had the biggest list of issues ever as I recall. And a new ford escort 1.4 was driven 5000 miles in a very short space of time ( was it a week??) with no faults . Seldom do we read such good stuff today !

The media are there to manipulate us but we mustn't fall for their lies.

Russell Bulgin is before my time but I've heard great stories about him. His interview with Nigel Mansell is supposed to be the stuff of legends.

I know all things are relative,  but I just feel the current crop of (electric) cars are simply too much money. I say that rather than too expensive because the word "expensive " is a subjective thing,  too much money is just that.
Everyone is different and things move on, but I suspect a large sector of the public don't really want nor need a whole host of the gizmos we now get in a car. £50k for an "ordinary " car?

A few gizmos do feature on my list,  leccy windows, a radio, and remote central locking,  but frankly not much more. I want passive safety stuff,  ABS airbags etc, but active cruise control isn't high on the list though I realise once you add some sort of distance sensor then other apps come almost for free,  just software in effect.

I suppose I'm now the proverbial "old far*" but I'm feeling a growing hatred of oversized SUVs, just way too big, especially too wide, to the point of being a hazard.
I digress ..........

I regularly see a certain demographic of person trying to parallel park a SUV into a tight spot for that size of vehicle

Many instances where a long queue of traffic builds up as they constantly get the angle wrong and perform over a dozen front and back manoeuvres and even then they are parked crooked

In my Jazz I could have done it in a single manoeuvre
Let's be careful out there !

When I see a large SUV with just one person I think of the phrase 'poser mode'

Just like those who drive round 24/7 with front fog lights blazing away

Look here my good man. There are times when the chauffeur has to drive the car without me in it you know, what what.
